Rusty nuts

My wheel nuts have gone rusty  And with my new wheels they look even worse now.
Is that common as I keep the car clean and use non acid cleaner on the wheels.
As new ones are a bit of a rip off are there any tips for cleaning up and maybe painting or treating?
I’m thinking something I could do by taking one nut off each wheel at a time so I dont have to take the wheels off.

Hi Boothy

I’m taking the opportunity to change the crappy Lotus ones - lots of options out there

After the cash you’ve just blown some new nuts should be a drop in well !!!

I saw a film called that, not for kids

Details please!!!

Boothy, just take them off, wash in hot soapy water and burnish with some 400 grit wet and dry paper. Works a treat and mine still look good.

Considering studs etc

I like the lotus one as its not a standard nut and thus has a security aspect. I got rid of the locking nuts as they were crappy and made of cheese.
Pete, I’ll give that a try thanks! Is there anything I can treat them with to protect them?

Blue them with heat m8 …
Heat with a torch , easy does it … only a couple of hundred degrees …2* boiling point then coat with oil …

Hey guys I’d be careful re-tempering wheel bolts that could be a Recipe for loosing a wheel :astonished:

Good point, I think I’ll stick with cleaning them up and then just doing it once a year or something.

You are right Orange …
Shouldn’t have posted that here … sorry .
If done wrong will affect the properties adversely …

Yep I dont want to toast my rusty nuts! Steph has already done that over the wheels

Boothy, we did warn you  . Rusty nuts, through lack of use, is a well documented marital condition brought on by…

  • Spending too much time in the garage
  • Purchasing new bling parts that are spotted (like wheels!)
  • Disclosing receipts for upgrades (or cars :astonished: ) you thought she couldn’t see
    …

This is very easy, take 3 nuts out of the wheel, clean and wipe with acitone or simalar push into a piece of cardboard and then spray with statin black paint from Halfauds. Wait a few minutes (20ish) and then refit, (i did a seco0nd coat. Repeat for each wheel and then the missed ones, works a treat and looks great

Job done

Will one nut left in be ok :astonished:

We should have blown em around the car park with the leaf blower …
For all the good it did us in the end !!
:astonished:

^^ PMSL, I reall need to post the leaf blower / intercooler vid!

Just don’t spray the nut behind the wheel
