Running on Unleaded?

As I’m having my car set up by Emerald, is there a reason I should keep it mapped for Super unleaded? Is there any reason I shouldn’t just get it tweaked for standard unleaded fuel???

Cheers,
Kurt

You’ll potentially get more power and better MPG with super compared to standard. If that’s not what you’re after then there’s no real reason.

Newer Emerald ECUs can have a switchable maps so you can run several types of fuel, though I’d imagine there’s a cost implication for the extra work involved. I’m not keen of that set up though as if you’re as forgetful as I am, you have the potential to put standard fuel in, forget to switch from the super map, and do some damage.

Thanks Azrael, you really are a mine of information! Mine unfortunately isn’t a switchable ECU, so its one map only. I’m thinking of going for straight unleaded due to the fact I use the car mainly on the road, limited availability of super at my local service station and ultimately the price difference.
Any naysayers???

Kurt

Go for SUPER mate!

I cannot imagine you will be doing that many miles that the 5p litre extra will make any difference!

I agree with Pete. For the amount of miles you do, I bet the extra wont add up to much in the real world. Dont forget, by this time next week all of our S1’s will be worth 50k

Pah … Super Unleaded … E85 is where the power is at

I think JFK can trump that suggestion!

Super Unleaded for sure!!

Worth adding Kurt, that if you do go for Super unleaded beware that they’re not all necessarily the same! BP Ultimate for example is rated 97RON while both Shell V-Power and Tesco Momentum are both 99RON - Just try to not run it (and especially never use it in anger) on something with a lower rating than it was mapped on.

I think the using it in anger deffo applies, but for a casual drive home from a track day, putting regular unleaded in wouldn’t be a problem.

What, even at your trackday commuting speeds Sean?

:astonished:

Haha love it …
Dudlaays very own landspeed record holder !

Definately super.

Can’t see a problem with 95 unleaded, provided it’s mapped accordingly. For road use, the mere few hp difference from super is irrelevant.

… racing drivers excuse Number 123!

Gents,

I’ll get some Shell V Power in it. It’s going back to Emerald later this month. Ill take off the undertrays to let it keep cool to prevent any flammable CV boot issues (!) and get John to factor in some pops and bangs on the overrun…

Cheers,
Kurt

Pops and bangs!
Nowt like 'em

Bobs and Pangs!

Lowt nike em

Dont map on V power unless you have a regular supply, 97 is available in most places though.
