Keep 'em Standard…
[quote=thommo]I will be a fascinated reader of all that is contributed and it’s already been interesting to be reminded of SeanB’s early engine.

PMSL @ Tim
Ha ha ha
Nice one tim
Remind me of the hamster’s name . . .
Richard Hammond…or did you mean the Guinea Pig in Tim’s post?
The King, whilst still a Prince
Tee hee. Never was much good at animal identification.
Don’t worry, both your sheep & goat love you.
Leave my relatives out of this!
wow Azrael this shows a life long relationship with the K lump
this is great !
so you manage to get your seasons racing done with just a strip and check up at the end of the season ?
you had any failures worth mentioning?
i guess you replace bearings and rings and bolts on each rebuild ?
whats a DKE crank ?
it’s good to keep the lid on your latest and greatest

hamsters are not compatible with high revs or curry sauce.

Yeah, It’s more of a life sentance!
A strip and check at the end of every season. No mechanical failures of any kind but I did wear out my 1.9 Scholar block in 2 seasons - the bores were very badly scored, though this was the period I’d pushed the rev limit up towards 9000rpm.
I replace bearings and main bolts, rings are subject to condition, but not had to replace any due to wear yet because of the changes of block.
DKE crank is Doug Kiddie Engineering who are now part of Arrow. Beautiful piece of kit!
There’s nothing revolutionary about my latest engine - I’m just holding judgement until I pull it apart in the next few weeks!
Azrael - how many miles have you driven each season per season?
Morning People,
Interesting reading,
Well lets get some more service life reports from all the K owners here this could turn out to be a well balanced review of what is viable using the K , with relation to engine hours between rebuilds allows users to see a picture of typical life cycles on the VHPD and objectively look at the costings of “staying” OEM with regards engine.
Not sure of actual mileage to be honest Pesk it’s one of the few thing the Stack dash doesn’t log! - with testing and the occasional trackday when I can it’s in the region of 25 hours maximum.
OMG so u trailer to the meets as well …
thats not alot of miles before restrip !
i guess it’s your insurance against mishaps and a natural point to do it every end of season is there any wear noticable at the end of each season if you keep to 8000rpm changeup ?
i was hoping 3000 miles + that would allow me go by road to the track days do 100 miles at the track and come back (10-12 meets a year).
Yes, it’s done yearly purely out of convenience. Nothing usually noticably or consistantly worn. Since getting the VGK block all rebuilds have been just a clean up and new bearing shells, head gasket and bolts only.
Ask Azrael how much polish he uses, his budget for Autoglym is way higher than his one for engine rebuilds.
And both of those are dwarfed by his bills for refilling his fire extinguisher!
Sorry, Steve
