roof scoop problems

i remember reading somewhere that the roof scoop (just the extended one on the 240pp model i think) has a ‘letterbox’ (i think) effect or that it hinders the car in some way. can someone explain this for me please. i also have read that it causes ‘heat soak’, can someone explain this for me too please. thanks

To put it simply where the airflow travels is restricted at the section that is between the rear of the roof and front of the boot lid. If you remove the roof you can then tidy up the hole by removing the xs fibreglass. This makes it less restrictive so gives a better/greater airflow.
Heat soak is when all the heat in the engine/bay etc heats up the intercooler so it struggles to cool the air going through it into the engine. The colder the air going into the engine the better.

thanks gav. very well written. is it a big job removing the excess fibre glass? How much about does it cost? thanks

And a canvas roof

Have a search on here as Boothy posted some pics of exactly what you need to dremel.

Lotus had an off day when they designed the intercooler setup for the exige. What with poor airflow and no thought for any other way of cooling the intercooler (such as water spray, etc) it heatsoaks within 5 mins of starting the engine up. Either get friendly with your dremel and start loving plastic ducting, extra scoops, etc or chargecool the thing. Plus the problem only gets worse the moment you start modifying the car for more power.
I certainly didnt buy my 240 car to make do with 210 after pulling out my drive so went down the chargecooler route.
Do a search on here for more info and lots of healthy debate.
