Roof scoop mod?

I always thought the scoop on the roof looked a bit ‘square’. I’ve since seen a few examples where the S1 air scoop on the roof has been widened to look, well, more like you’d expect, with lines following the shape of the body.

The best example I saw was on Uldis’s car where the replacement grill looked OEM. I have a picture somewhere I’ll post when I find it. The race car currently for sale has a more extreme approach to the same concept.

Have many of you done this mod? And do you think it will help get more air and therefore cooling into the engine bay?

here you go:

Original scoop. Bit square.

Modded scoop following the lines of the roof. Specifically whats cool here is the OEM look grill.

Whether it makes any difference I don’t know.

I prefer the second one, much nicer looking

I prefer it too but would it really make much difference? I thought that a lot of that airflow has come up through the rad anyway and is warm?

That does look good. Now where did I put my Dremell

That’s what I was thinking. A dremel goes through fibre glass like a hot knife through butter though. I reckon achieving such clean lines might be harder than it looks. Chances of complete disaster might be quite high.

Draw a clean line with a sharpie makes it quite easy, the mesh looking OE however …
