This whole thing has really broken my car enthusiast heart.
I LOVE my Murcielago. It’s my first Lambo, probably not my last. I have this car because I LOVE CARS and IMHO Lambo makes WONDERFUL cars.
It is just totally blowing my mind how many people are standing up and crying out how they only buy these cars for status.
I bought my Exige S because I LOVE CARS and I LOVE TO DRIVE. My parents always thought I was crazy, or out doing drugs… it went like this since the day I got my license, me: “I’m going for a drive” them (being loving and caring): “where to?” me: “nowhere…just going to drive.” them: “why?” me: “I just want to drive” them: “ooook…” lol I think my Dad got it on some level, because he loved cars. But he was way more disciplined and mature than I will ever be and would never indulge like I do (read: spend money on cars and think it’s a good idea… it is isn’t it??)
Anyway, it really breaks my heart. When I was a kid and thought about the day I’d “move up the ranks” and start getting into more interesting cars that I would be surrounded by people who shared the same passion.
Don’t get me wrong…they exist. You guys, for one group, share the passion for pure, unadulterated driving pleasure. The Lotus was my first exotic and this community made it a WONDERFUL ownership experience…so good that I’m still here and still love it! The FBody crews I ran with shared it. The 350Z crews I ran with shared it. The Corvette guys I ran with shared it (even though many were really, really…really old and I couldn’t find a connection with them). But the Lambo crowd…again…I’m not blanketing the entire population, but damn so far it seems 50/50 at best. They’d rather talk about the value of their watch, the money in their pockets, the number of cars they have, etc etc. It’s NAUSEATING!! It honestly bugs the shit outta me. I don’t know why. I shouldn’t care. I guess I’m just SHOCKED.
Christ I rarely even park my car because I don’t want to deal with the implications of “status” that people might assume. I just want to be IN it, and DRIVE it, and ENJOY it. I don’t want people to know who I am, or who owns the car. I don’t mind questions and stuff. But I’m a bit of an introvert and would prefer just to be in my own world when I’m driving. And that goes for any car I’ve ever owned.
The stuff going on in the LPower thread is bewildering. Ignoring that I got banned (maybe? who knows…I haven’t been back since I was told I might get a vacation) for doing things that 20 other people in the thread are doing and getting pats on the back for it… They are grammar policing Frank when many in that thread can’t spell or write correctly either. They are hypocritically denouncing Frank for insulting the Lamborghini brand when he has not done anything of the sort while in the same breath slamming the Lotus brand as “garbage”. They are calling Frank a braggard when he was minding his own business, in his own post on L4P, when Allan posted with no other intent other than to bust his balls about nothing, AND THEN went to Lpower to create HIS OWN THREAD to show off how he went and insulted Frank (GOD DAMN I WISH L4P HAD NOT DELETED THAT FUCKING THREAD SO THEY COULD ALL SEE THAT ALLAN STARTED ALL THIS SHIT). They are supporting Allan as some kind of court jester, acting like getting a reaction out of Frank was their plan the whole time. Many seem happy to admit that Allan will never step up to back up his own egomania and act like that is a GOOD thing.
WTF IS GOING ON THIS WORLD??? Everything is completely ass backwards.
Like Douglas Adams said, the Universe is designed such that once you think you have it all figured out, it immediately collapses upon itself and is replaced by something completely different.
Ah well… I got flamed for being long winded on Lpower (I love to write, so it just happens what can I say). So I won’t bore you guys with the same (hah…too late!!). Just know that I am proud of and love the Lotus community for being REAL and DOWN TO EARTH.
Please keep the BS comments to yourself…
