Road tax question

So, what is the cost of road tax going to be for a std S1 Exige when all the changes come in. Being stupid and lazy I thought I’d ask rather than figuring out all the Gov crap on the issue!

Cheers me dears

Andy.

I’ll start the bidding at 185.00

Christ, just paid that for w reg diesel Astra… the Exige is a classic and should be rated as such. And I’ve just put the cat back on.

260

260

could be worse, I am sure my Audi S3 is going to be 400

260

Steve, out of interest how do you reach that figure for a pre March 01 vehicle?

What’s the reason for the older car initially being more expensive and then in coming years the older car being significantly cheaper.

Your government over there certainly seems to have no chuffing clue when it comes to motoring… mind you, ours ain’t much better.

What’s the reason for the older car initially being more expensive and then in coming years the older car being significantly cheaper.

Think the idea is simply a presumption that the number of pre 2001 cars on the road each year significantly decreases and hence become less of an earner for the goverment, easiest therefore just to link any increase vaguely to inflation. However the number of post 2001 i.e. new cars significantly increases so having their pants down fills the coffers.
Whilst no supporter of Brown (or Brown pants after last nights results ) it is good to see he is in a small way helping to keep up residuals of S1’s

How is the road tax calculated in the UK?

Here in Holland its just the weight of the car… my S1 = 192 (150) p year

This may be obvious and someone may have raised it before but why should anyone pay the full rate of tax when their insurance limits them to 5,000 miles a year, for example. I could do 20,000 and still pay the same.

MoTs would provide proof of mileage, surely.

Ahhhh, my Economics ‘O’ level tells me that once a tax is in place, and the govt. have got away with it, they never ever give it back. Look at some of the stupid taxes that certain parties have brought in, only to be left in by the next party that gets elected, even though that party was decrying the thing last week.

“What hard work giveth, the tax man taketh away”

I’ve just noticed something interesting.

My the V5 for my S1 Exige doesn’t have emission data recorded. Surely the tax is based on the DVLA data, and if no data is available the car should only attract the standard tax so it’ll be the 180ish p.a.?

Yup
