Reversing camera and screen

Hi all,

Can’t possibly buy a car without modding it before I collect it so am looking at plans for making reversing useful.

It’s essential for me as I park the car by reversing into a very tight spot on my driveway. Rear visibility is mandatory for this. - coud get away with parking sensors
I suppose.

Anyway, I’m thinking. Should go down the flip out screen route for a usable size image, although I did consider a camera that sts on th existing mirror but I think it’s too big for the location.

I keep hearing references that a flip out screen fouls one of the stalks. Is this only the case on the newer dashboard that has the radio mounted centrally? - which I do not have.

If so is it an option for me? My concern is tat the radion looks to be shrouded by the dash above is and so is there enough clearance for the screen to clear te dash above without being forced to point down?

Thanks in advance.

The mirrors are pretty good. if you need to know when to stop, put a mark on the wall next to the drivers window???
or hire a garage?

Jonny Fox is your man for in car TV

get rear view mirrors with small OLED screens built in?

My car lives on my drive and I don’t have a problem with reversing on to it. I’d be surprised if you find reversing visibility to be a problem, as said above the mirrors are fine for this. Your bigger concern is probably going to be catching the front splitter - it took me a while to work out how to get the car on without doing so!

i got these:
Kenwood - KVT-526DVD
Kenwood - CMOS-200

I’m in birmingham if u wanna check it out

Done that already for the previous car - is a good solution, but I do like an approach that will allow me to mod!

Am I right in thinking that the fold up screen isn’t a problem on the older style dashboard?

Use a different colour marker.

What a good idea, but I’m no help I’m afraid. I bought the camera and the screen seperate then build them up. The prototype was quite funny lol (hey Ben…tosser  )

Finished…

Am thinking jvc x77 or x55 - single din but rear view camera input. Less intrusive and not so expensive/heavy.

To warn you of faster supercharged vehicles approaching from behind?

^^^^ it cant see that far lol ^^^^

I got a parking sensor that was a metalic strip that could be stuck inside the boot. It worked a treat, the only limitation was that the type of sensor would only work when moving.

Gav

Thanks Gav, have actually got one of those already that I was planning to put in the front lip of the gtr.

As it stands, I suppose I wanted to option of rear visibility at all times whilst I am driving as I just like to know what’s behind me.

Maybe I’ll get over that.

Must say that I have considered a reversing camera, but have never got around to it after 4.5 years, and whilst I like the idea of the mod, I doubt I will do it now.

There are lots of discussions about such mods on the American site Lotus Talk The Lotus Cars Community

There is a distinct Advantage with not having a practical rear view for those who drive their cars all year round, and that is you are somewhat protected from the latest effin headlights that seem to burn into my retina from the recent 4x4\Audi\BMW models

Sadly this doesn’t help to protect my eyes from led brake lights from prats in front at traffic lights who dont know what a hand brake is for.

Thanks for the reminder…haha , its actually topical again

never considered a rear view camera and never will,
properly adjusted door mirrors and looking at the space you are reversing into through the side windows should see most competent drivers ok.
