Apparently the Resonator valve actuator is missing on my Exige…
It has been replace with a air filter. and the huge air hose is not fitted to the air intake on the left side but is laying loose.
Question 1: Does anybody have any experience with this valve and why I (don’t) need it? From the manual I know for what it is but I like to hear from somebody how much influence it has.
Question 2: Why didn’t they remove al the other stuff controlling the valve? Can I remove it?
The valve was only fitted to allow the car to pass UK noise tests and most people removed it on delivery or shortly thereafter. You can remove all of the various bits that make up the kit. Once the valve is removed its not necessary to remove all the other parts and as they don’t weigh too much I guess the last owner just decided to leave them in situ.
The huge air conical filter - if that’s what you have got was part of the standard equipment. In fact the car came with two as standard.
All cars came with the intake hose loose as you have found it. There is a part available from Lotus to connect directly to the intake on the left hand side of car or if you search the archives on this site you will see various other options to make the connection.
Rene I did not remove all the bits just in case it disturbed anything else…I did replace the small vacuum pipes coming out of the manifold when these split and disturbed the low speed running.
I have seen a Dave Andrews engine with most of the pipes and tubes on the intake side removed and it looks very neat.
My Job for next winter.
