Repositioning front Ohlins remote canisters?

Anyone moved their remote reservoirs from the lower wishbone?
They are pretty exposed to road grime and debris down there (which I feel will have contributed to the failure of one of the braided hose ferrules at Anglesey). The rears were in much better condition.

I’m thinking after rebuild to reposition them. Maybe service access panels with quick release etc…

You should do your measuring etc, befor ethe rebuild, you can then request the correct sized hoses and have them all come off the damper and reser at the correct angles.

Access is difficult on an S2.

Thanks Sean, I still have a little bit of time before they are going back together.

On an S1 it would be a no brainer but there is no obvious better place on the S2. Just wondering if anyone else had done it and their experiences?

Perhaps an alternative would be to make a shield for them down by the wishbones ?

Have to say your car at Anglesey was the first I’d seen with them down by the wishbones… seemed a crazy place for Lotus to put them to me.

My front ohlins are positioned on the chassis by the lower front wishbone (dealer fitted, but as per factory advice). I should have put some protective tape around the canisters first but hey ho.

They do look very secondhand after the bad winter too :frowning:

It is the Lotus recommended position but lots of grime and corrosion there.

I thought about a shield but hard to make one that would be effective yet still allow access to the adjuster.

I might leave them there but shrink wrap the whole cannister assembly and hose fitting with just a cutout for the adjuster.

The 2-11 has them attached to the front crash structure. It may be worth looking at something similar although you would probably have to cut a hole in the wheel arch liners to run the hoses through… Only takes a couple of minutes to remove the liners so easy enough to adjust when you need to (me personally once I have found a setting I like I dont touch them.)

Thanks Gav, I’ll have a look at that.

No problem making a hole in the liners - usally just use the tyres to do that…
