Removing grills in side scoops and roof scoop

Just wondering if anyone has removed these and done some miles with the all the engine intakes “open”?

I know all about opening up the joke that is the standard roof scoop so more curious about the side scoops. Don’t want to end up having to regularly pull out debris, road crap, animals and small children. Plus curious as to what it would look like.

I dont have the mesh in my side scoops as I replaced them with Carbon fibre ones that came without…

I did attempt to take the mesh off the std scoops, but seems impossible. Although a friend suggested a heat gun might work, but I’ve not tried.

The scoops do look much better with the mesh, but another option is to replace the meshing with some that has larger holes…not sure how much difference it really makes though! If yours is like mine, a lot of the driver side scoop is blocked with chargecooler pipes anyway!

which carbon jobbies did you go with (and how much)?

I did think about sourcing some larger mesh…wouldnt know where to start though.

If you have a pic of your car with the carbon scoops on and mesh free that would be a real help…especially as yours is orange too (!)

Got to say your avatar under mine when u reply to one of my threads looks like the same car in reverse…in other words bootiful.

Just wondering at what point your car will cease to be an Exige at the rate your going ???

When someone develops an engine/tranny transplant I can afford…

Don;t really have any decent pics to hand, but you sort of get the idea with this one…

The carbon scoops were just cheap ebay ones, which are actually okay (think they were 80) - Mine were all stone chipped, so thought I’d try them. I’m probably going to get the warapped in CF anyway at some point to match a few other bits I will be doing.

Your car look pretty good too mate…but then I would say that

Cool, looks great…i bought some stone guards ages ago and never fitted them as I went with the matt black wrap down the sides but after seeing this pic I might be de-wrapping in the summer and fitting the stone guards.

Oh and the scoops look good…I’ll be in the look out for some wider ones in carbon now, I just can’t stomach some of the silly prices the list of usual suspects seem to want.

I got the wide RLS ones that are not yet fitted to the car , I think Liam knows the bloke at carbon mods , your welcome to use my ones to copy and get him to make some in carbon .

I don’t understand Steve why? I clean my air filter every three TD’s and am forever pulling out bits leaves and sh1t. You use yours on the road every day, God knows what you’ll find in there to clog it up. Is it really going to make that much difference? Buy some bigger ones. At least you have consistent airflow rather than no idea what airflow depending what’s in there. I didnt think it was that easy getting to the air filter with a SC.

You probably get a bigger improvement fitting larger Naca ducts and or re ducting the roof scoop - mine basically does nothing with the chargecooler in the way!

Just cleaned my car after Oulton and you wouldn’t believe the crap that came out of my side/roof scoops !!!

Leaves, lots of rubber, 2 small children, a sheep & a red Caterham which I thought I had overtaken !!!

I’ll be leaving all of my grills in place

That is interesting, I’ve never cleaned mine out :astonished:
