Remote thermostat

One of the jobs I’m going to do over winter is fit the landrover remote thermostat kit. However can anyone confirm what parts I need to order for my car, which is a standard 177 with no aircon. I’ve found this guide on SELOC Pressure Relief Remote Thermostat - TechWiki
which gives the part numbers for two different kits, one for the Freelander and one for the MGF, I’m not sure which is suitable for our cars, so any help identifying the correct one and any tips on fitting would be appreciated. Also are there any other parts I need to order beside the thermostat kit

Cheers

I suggest you give Chris Foulds a call he fit one to my car and it now has stable temperatures on track days. His no. is 01484666552

I’ve just fitted one to my S2 elise - as you’ve rightly noticed, there are 2 kits - the Landrover has the best fir re pipes but not the optimal thermostat. Therefore you buy the Landorver kit (PCH001190) AND the grey 82C thermostat (PEL500110). Try this page as well is helpful

The page you refered to lists the other parts you need (but strangley doesn’t mention changing the thermostat for the grey one) i.e 3 tubing joiners, thermostat O rings & thermostat blanking plate (which replaces your current thermostat). It is a relatively straightforward job but it gets a little tredious fitting & removing the unit to get it to fit well. I should add that my garage has an inspection pit - I would not like to do this job using just axle stands etc. Good luck

have a look here web page

You only need the one Landrover kit PEL500150.

I didn’t fit it myself, but it was done with only the minimum additional bits - a length of ali tube and some jubilee clips…

Hi

I am not a supporter of the PTR, because what makes the PTR is to mix the hot coolant with the cold, to establish a steady coolant and balanced, but that always come enter in the engine temperature to more desirable.

When coolant comes from the radiator, is more cold and the mixture with the hot, that is what makes the RTP to approximately 85 degrees, this coolant enters balanced yes, but more than normal temperature.

I suggest a good thermostat, the lower the better, so that the hot and cold coolant enter in contact as soon as possible and do not occur in large dilations in the aluminum of the block and piston head.

And put other coolant temperature sensor auxiliary your fan, so that work approximately to 85 degrees.

Thus coolant never arrive at approximately 103 degrees and never work the coolant temperature sensor that is to the exit of the piston head, because the coolant never arrive more than 87/90 degrees.

Regards

Thanks for the help guy’s, I’ll do a bit of homework to see which one I go with.
