Show your refurbished suspension pics,I feel a winter project coming on.Not sure what colours to finish in
This was my old 111R, done in 2016/17 winter. It was just powdercoating with no magic treatment beforehand:
I’m still in touch with the new owner, he says that a couple of small chips have appeared but nothing that can’t be easily touched up. No evidence of corrosion creeping back in yet.
When I get round to it on my Exige I’ll probably do a bit more work passivating etc before a final topcoat.
Some before and after on a cou0le i have done in last 12 months, different people prefer different coatings from plating, powder coating and brush painting.
My own preference is zinc spraying then top coating with Rustuleim as it looks great, lasts a long time and best of all can be easly touched up if damaged. Neither plating or powder coating can be repaired once damaged.
Looking good ,keep them coming
Dean did you do this yourself? If via a garage do you mind sharing indicative idea of cost. Would like to rise joint too. I have same Ohlins so very comparable.
Cheers Jamss
Hi James,
I had it done at a lotus specialist along with other work too. The bearing kit on its own is not that expensive but obviously it’s the fitting / pressing bearings in & setting suspension back up afterwards, plus powder coating, ball joints, drop links.
The handling now is sublime & very predictable it doesn’t surprise you mid-corner even if you hit a bump. When she does start to slide it’s very smooth transition into lovely drift & even more commutatively. Plus It is no more harsher than when it had rubber bushes, it’s a win / win for me.
Thanks Dean
I actually think that’s really reasonable for the works. My car is really well set up right now, it’s corner weighted etc. And I’ve partially been putting off refreshing the wishbones/anti role bars as I don’t want to ruin the set up, but need to give in and just ensure it’s set back up correctly after. I had an Exige before the one I have now and that was rose jointed and never disappointed.
No worries,
It’s definitely worth doing especially if you track it.
I did mine last year as well, was long overdue!
All metalwork sandblasted, Kephos base coated and Xylan top coated in black through Samdwell UK.
Nitron rose joints (best upgrade I did the car feels much better)
Quick rack
Adjustable anti roll bar
New bearings all round
Suspension refreshed by Meteor motorsport
Plus lots and lots of elbow grease!

Looks nice,top garage and ramps…respect
Just had to be done when I was getting the garage built, was totally worth all the hassle of getting the ramp in it’s worth it’s weight in gold
Great effort!
Quick Q on the Ohlins mounting. What are the remote reservoirs jubilee’d to? It looks like a tube between the bolts on the wishbones.
I have similar Ohlins units on my S1. The standard installation for the remote is on the wishbone bar.
However I figured out that by swapping the front units over, ie. left to right, the remotes can be installed under the front panel.
Swapping over was necessary as the units are ‘handed’ and it made routing the hose much easier.
This makes them much more accessible and they aren’t affected by road grime!
