Rebuilding my CUP260

I need some

I took

Buy some of this AP Racing, paint your discs and do a track day. You will probably be pleasantly surprised to see that you don’t need any additional cooling on your brakes.

Your uprights have just got cheaper and lighter still as you won’t need the carbon duct on the rear.

Unless you’re truly going for the American look and fitting moondiscs to your wheels.

I’ve seen

Depends really. Some pads smell too hot when really they aren’t, some pads are the other way around. The only other thing that can get a little crispy is the caliper dust seals, with serious track use they don’t like the temps.

Really don’t think you will need the ducts, 1st engineering principle, keep it simple, if you don’t need it, don’t design/make/fit/haul it around the track. Put it this way, with over 400 hp on a heavyish S1, with a good driver, we’ve never had a temp issue. This is pretty much every track in the UK, in all sorts of layouts, plus Spa, in anything from 20 to 40 minute races. And with discs smaller than you started with.

I don’t know

Crack on if you think it’s a worthwhile mod.

If you’re purely running it on a track, I’d suggest you would benefit from a change of pad type, RS14 used to be really good, but they are IMO no where near as good as they used to be, or others that are now available. Pagid swear they haven’t changed what’s in them, but around 2003-4ish, there was a marked change in their performance, the levels of dust they produced and the dreaded hot judder appeared.

Never run ducts on my S2 with 315mm discs or even with 308mm I have never had brake fade ever, I’m sure Gav drives faster and brakes later than me and I don’t think he has ever bothered. be cool if you do make them, just not convinced you need them

The special

Since I’m changing

and…

Fair play,…the most I’ve ever had fabricated to my design is a decal

What

Really impressive stuff!

Will you be machining your own pistons or can you get someone to make a one-off set?
Only ask as i ordered a bespoke set of pistons from Wiseco once, i could stipulate the dimensions but had to use their basic design and was told tooling charges applied to vary that design.

I need

The serious

Keep it coming…

This is really interesting to see the results

Me too…

My 300hp seems very slow these days, it just seems normal, anyone else gets in the car get a exciting surprise, it makes my RS3 seem lethargic, you aiming for 350-400hp?
