I am about to replace the rear wheel bearings and wondered if it is advisable to heat the hub before fitting the new bearings.
I do not have a press at home but the local garage will lend me the one they have but is a heavy bit of kit to transport.
If the hubs do not need to be heated I can just take them to the garage and fit them.
Getting the old ones out is the hardest part of the job …
I sometimes make a cut in the inner race with a grinder or air chisel .
As above ,freezer on the bearing and mild heat on the hub to fit …a smear of oil / grease on assembly helps too .
Never needed a press on any bearing to fit …
I am sorted with the press now, the hubs are off but one of the circlips is not giving up at the moment it is soaking in WD 40 over night does anyone know of an easy way to remove one.
The bearing on this side is very worn so that might be why the circlip is stuck. Pssenger side is OK but I am going to change both while the hubs are off.
