Advice please …my rear no. plate plinth needs a respray .I have removed all the obvious fixings but the thing is still well attached at the top…There is a set of nuts at the rear of the boot floor area holding an ali bracket… I am fearful of undoing these just in case the bolts disappear into the depths never to be seen again. and the heat shield becomes irretrievably detached and of course the Accusump is fitted over one of the nuts making it almost inaccessable… happy days
Did that exercise last winter. Feels like mission impossible at first.
Remove accusump
Undo those nuts, 8 if I remember right
Use a plastic pry bar to release the alu bar/bracket. It is bonded in place with what to me looked like a hard type of sikaflex. Separation will happen between glue and boot floor.
Use a knive and try to clean out as much of the glue as you can from the threaded pieces. If you don’t it will be very difficult to get the plinth to release.
For the final step there might be better ways, but I used a rubber mallet and went to work on the screws (turned out they are not screws but threaded rods welded to the plinth)
