Rear Engine Cover Refurbishment

Has anyone had theirs refurbished? Particularly interested in the black edge detailing (approx. 75mm wide) as some areas are detaching from the Perspex.

Also is the frame simply sikaflexed onto the Perspex?

Thanks

Would be interested to know this too as I have a spare one with some scratches.

Sorry no help here, but I’d also be interested, I also have some of the black areas which need some work

anybody else got a spare one to sell??

I have a small scratch on mine. Speaking to an owner of a light aircraft there is a kit for repairing plastic canopies of planes. I was going to have a look but haven’t yet. Apparently it needs a bit of bravery as it uses ever decreasing abrasion, and the first pass is a little agressive. :astonished:

I’ve done scratch removal successfully on headlight covers (not Lotus) and it is quite amazing what can be achieved. The first pass with coarse abrasive is character-building though!

It’s better on plastics that aren’t coated and there’s a lot of elbow grease needed, but even fairly deep scratches can be taken out.

I seem to recall that Tarmac Terrorist had a restoration done or recommended some method or person to do such work.

Bear in mind that the rear cover is a 3 layer laminate with the middle layer being the black edging. What can appear to be scratches in the clear section can sometimes be early signs of delamination…as was the case on my original S1 rear cover (replaced under warranty back in the day).

mine is definately scrathes in the plastic, not delamination.

going to try the sanding method and then compound, will probably have to have it re-clear/brown coated with UV laquer.

Meguirs do a good plastic polishing kit.
