Anyone got any ideas why this would happen. Outer pad is worn nearly to the backing plate and inner is hardly worn at all. It looked like the caliper had seized on but on removing the wheel the caliper slides really easily. The only thing I found wrong was the pin was loose and the anti rattle spring was fitted the wrong way around - could this be the cause?
Steve, I found a similar wear pattern on my rears last time I changed the pads. I suspect it’s just a ‘grab’ thing where the outer pad hits the disc first before the action of the pistons pulls the other pad on and ‘centralises’ the caliper. Don’t know and I’m no expert but you’re not alone…
Mike
thanks for the reply. I’m hoping its not a normal occurance as its never happened before and its gone through the outer pad in @3,000 miles of road only mileage.
You’re right - 3000 road miles doesn’t sound normal - mine had done more like 9,000 when I found this wear pattern
Well I’m just going to fit another set of pads and see what happens.
Can anyone confirm the amount of movement i should be seeing in the handbrake cable at the caliper end?
According to section JH of the manual there should be 76mm from the outside edge of the operating lever to the outside edge of the cable abutment (at each hub) and then take out the slack at the horseshoe by the adjuster under the wishbomne mounting and recheck at each hub.
(This doesn’t seem to make any sense without a picture - perhaps I can PM you the .pdf if you haven’t got it?)
Mike - thanks I have the manual, so it does make sense - I was hoping I could get some real world feedback on what that measurement is when the handbrake is on.
