Rattly rear glass

OK since johnfishcurtis asked a question about rattles, I now feel brave enough to ask one of my own. Normally the other Lotus kids laugh at me for asking about rattles.

I introduced one when I fitted the powerflex engine mount inserts, I appreciate more/worse NVH is written on the packet for them but it feels like this could be avoidable. At low RPM/idle my rear glass occasionally rattles. I spent ages fiddling with the boot latch/hinges thinking that was the cause but the other week I was able to halt/change the tune of the rattle by pushing my palm against the glass from inside.

I believe the S2 glass is bonded in, so no real scope for the glass itself to be loose - but almost certainly some trim pushing against it? Any likely candidates? I keep forgetting to investigate it when my seats/bulkhead trim is out but looking at old photos I really don’t think there’s anything in here that could be rattling… so thinking maybe on the engine bay side?

The only bit I think that is blindingly obvious is this

The plastic shrouding over the bay …

Yeah that’s on the hit list, annoyingly if I remember right the nuts for those button head bolts are on the inside of the car behind the bulkhead trim - so can’t take it off to investigate without stripping the interior. I need to give my rear speakers their last rites before that happens. I also attached (via engineering cable ties) my charge cooler pump to that plaggy trim, which may be making the rattles a bit worse so it’s certainly possible.

Pain in the ass to access on my car though, we’re not all lucky enough to have our charge coolers tucked away tidily :unamused:

Ah you mean by tucked away with those pipes that stop you easily checking the dipstick and generally all / any belts?

OK Pro’s and Cons, I get it
