Radio Blanking Plate

Hi All,

I want to remove the little blue alcantara blanking plate over the hole in the dash for the radio.

I had a quick go this morning at levering it out with a screwdriver but it wouldn’t move. I didn’t want to go too harsh on it because I didn’t want it damaged.
Are there any tricks to getting these out?

I want to pull it out so I can mould up a new one in fibreglass that’ll take a 52mm gauge.

Any help gratefully appreciated!

Hi the ones in both the Elise’s I’ve tried came out with just putting a little pressure on the top edge by hand not tools involved ~ worked on the switch surround ones too ~ although I suspect that they might have been out before
There is just a wee 3mm lip at the back on the top and bottom edges.

If it won’t come out that way I’d be inclined to use something wide like a scrapper/ fish slice or pallet knife to spread the load and lessen the chance of dammage

Cheers for that, I’ve just found an image in the Elise Workshop manual that describes it… might be trying to jimmy it out with a credit card.

Thanks

George…On my previously neglected Stealth Orange the covers had got stuck to the dash panel due to Ali corrosion and were trouble to remove…but a little water and a good prize with a wide instrument did the job.

Thanks Mr B, Got it off in the end with some persuasion

you in Kiwiland now? We must catch up for a pint and/or pie.

George

Yeah he’s definately over there with you…someewhere!

If you catch up with Clive, please ask him to check his pms here, & his email. Hopefully the old giffer hasn’t forgotten the relevent passwords!

Will do Mr P. I’ll chase down his errant son in law and find out where Clive is. I’m planning to go to the Tasman GP race meeting next weekend and I think Clive will be around there somewhere too… lurking suspiciously
