Radiator damage

After Cadwell I have found the front rad cover hinge is touching the radiator tubes when cover is closed…its only slight but will wear the tubes and cause a leak in time…

Anybody come across this ? any suggestions before I remove hinge etc for a closer look??/

yep… mind did that too…
I cured it by inserting some washers under the clam mount points in front of the radiator to lift it up a little…
oh and I replaced the radiator.

If you need a radiator I have some proalloy rads which are cosmetically damaged…one of the lads knocked over a batch while we were making them last week (he was popular)
All pressure tested etc but marked…

I was begining to think no one else had had this prob.
I think a rad replacement could be on the cards.
If you care to pm me with a telephone no. we can chat about it.
Cheers

The problem is the rubber washers separating the spacers from the clam have perrished allowing the clam to drop.
The answer has been to replace them with Rubber tap washers (3/4in) and ProAlloy’s extra washers now gives reasonable clearance.
This is a problem you could all face…check your rad clearance NOW
Off to get a pressure test …How much for the scratched rad Proalloy??

Will check at the weekend - thanks for the heads up.

Where abouts are the washers that perish ?

Lift up the front cover.
Find the forward cap screws in the rain gutter, under these between the clam and the spacers should be a rubber washer .
Mine were perrished and flattened giving about 2mm or less clearance at the hinge/radiator closest point. Look where the hinge would hit the rad…if there are signs of the fins/tubes being crushed you have trouble… good luck
