Rad replacement

And my leaking radiator hose is…actually a leaking rad.

I understand the standard one has silly plastic bits on and have been offered an ali one for a only a few quid more which seems to make sense.

However, I’d hate Lakeside to have the front of the car off without checking there wasn’t any other collective wisdom out there. Thoughts folks?

Cheers, Ian

Go for it - I think everyone whose oem rads pack in, replace them with those with ali ends.

Fingers crossed, my oem rad is still ok.

Seconded - I changed my standard Rad when I changed the engine - the plastic end tanks will fail eventually.

One point - do you have air con ?

The standard way the air con rad is fitted to the coolant rad with the fans ( bolts through the core) is asking for trouble ( one rubs against the other ) or at least mine was …

Ask whoever does it to find a better way of attaching the fans and stuff to avoid that possability

Top tip, thanks Andy, exactly the sort of advice I was looking for.

I assume that’s not going to be a massively complex task for them?

Dear Mr Pesky, I would just like to say how very grateful I was for your words of encouragement over my current radiator problems. I look forward to your future contributions, they lighten my day and give me back that strong sense of community that has been missing from my life over recent months.

In the meantime, if I can do anything to help you with your over sensitive nature and egocentric complex I would be delighted to help.

Yours gratefully, Ian

Dear Mr Goodall

The damage is done, & I am scarred for life (what’s left of it).

No amount of squirming, apologising, or trying to be nice, will have any effect on my feelings. However, your cheque for 1000 will soften the blow, & perhaps help to restore my wellbeing to its former glory. Said cheque, should of course be made payable to “Save the K Series Fund” c/o The Muppet Show.

Yours, very sincerely,

Unkle Pesky

Its great to have you back Ian

Need any wheels ?

Need any wheels ?

Have you got some for sale?

What sort?

How heavy are they?

Do you need spacers for them?

What colour are they?

Will they fit on an S2?

Will you do a swap for an S1 engine cover plus cash (or a prize conker)?

Have you found a house for Jude yet?

You were doing so well until you got to “house” …

Come on Andy, there are some bargains here ATM.

Ian, have just got a Pro-Alloy rad to go in mine… looks really nice… I’m thinking of running without a front clam just so people can see it.

However, your cheque for 1000 will soften the blow…

How about a bacon butty?!

Cheers Andy.

No current need, but I could store them for you pending future sales?

Nice idea!

Have you thought about “upgrading” the hose connectors? I’d imagine the original OEM ones were probably not the best to start with and quite old now. Whether its real or imagined I don’t know but some of the premium brands, Mikalor, etc, claim to have a more even clamping arrangement. Weeping hoses seem to be almost as common as the leaking plastic ends!

Also, I read somewhere about the benefit of having the radiator painted black as opposed to leaving a bright metal finish. It would be interested to see if anyone has an opinion on that?

The benefits of coating a radiator black are tiny … almost un-measureable provided we are talking about a very thin layer pf paint.
The benefits however will be later on in life when the bare radiator may become corroded, in this case the painted radiator will out perform the bare one…

bit of useless information there for you…

Thanks Steve. I thought it was just the connectors but I trust Lakeside that it’s not. I’m also trusting them that they connect it back up securely.

Ian
