I wasn’t driving today, so I can’t give a proper report on the day… but here goes.Given that I wasn’t driving, I decided to turn up at the track at 10:30 (I figured I didn’t need to attend the drivers briefing at 8:30, or wait for the observation laps to take place)At 10:30 they were still waiting for the ice to disappear and not a single lap had been run by anyone except the marshalls [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image]Hardened track day guys, used to running on frosty tracks like Donington were getting a bit miffed that their track hours were ticking away… plus the best way to clear a track is to drive on it (as Donington shows)Still, this was Oulton Park, part of the Brands Hatch conglomerate, and these guys seems to have a rule for pretty much everything going.Anywho, by the time we got going, I managed to blag a lift in Steve’s Black Exige (remember the one that hit the tyre wall @ Brands ?)The track was still wet/icy/greasy, and on our second lap Steve overcooked it (easy to do in those conditions) and we went into a spin [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/shocked.gif[/image] Fortunately we span, keeping to the tarmac, and everyone following us avoided us fine. Things could have been MUCH MUCH worse. The rest of that session Steve took it a bit easier until the track dried more.I don’t think Steve reads this BBS (he might now!) - but thanks to Steve for the ride.Lurking in the carpark was a Laser/Azure Exige, owned by none other than our resident Bill Oddie look-alike, Pesky. Bloody nice bloke. I want to see his son take his driving test in the Exige [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]It’s always good to put a face to a name. Here are pics of the Exiges there.Pesky/Steve, feel free to use this in your profiles if you create one.Click to enlarge any of these pictures [image]http://www.exiges.com/gallery/peskyf1a.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/gallery/peskyf2a.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/gallery/stevef1a.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/gallery/stevef2a.jpg[/image] This guy needs mudflaps. Hi DavidGood to meet you today, & thanks for the “tips” etc. Also thanks for the photos. Sorry we didn’t get chance to say ta ta. I also blagged a few laps with Steve in the afternoon (he’s another bloody nice bloke!) & the track had fully dried out. I was mightily impressed with the Exige’s roadholding & handling in particular - quite an eye-opener [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] I can’t wait for mine to have its first service next week & also to be derestricted & de-catted. Steve also very kindly took my son out for a few laps (he’s used to going round in an EVO 6), & he was quite surprised to learn that the Exige is just as quick - in the dry at any rate [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]Most depressing sight of the day was Lister’s demo WRX Impreza on its roof just after Lodge corner. It was quite badly damaged down the nearside & along the top. I heard that there were four people onboard, & thankfully they all got out okay. Nonetheless, it’s going to cost plenty to get that car road worthy again!Yours (twitching)Bill[This message has been edited by Pesky (edited 27 January 2001).]
