Quaife gearbox

Hi All,

Anyone still running one of these?

I’ve got an oil leak on mine, and I’ve gone through and gradually replaced everything and still can’t track it down.

Even at the tail end of the gearbox, the casing always seems to have a film of oil on it and I’m thinking that it’s a case of a porous casting allowing oil to weep through and run down. There’s just nothing else I can identify as to where the oil is coming from.

The Quaife box uses a Rover bellhousing/front casting but the rear casting is a sand-casting and is Quaife’s own.

The leak isn’t massive but it’s enough to be annoying and make a mess… especially since the gearbox doesn’t hold a lot of oil, and wouldn’t take a massive amount of leakage to run low.

Anyone?

You could get the casting impregnated …

Indeed, I spotted that site earlier this evening and might be giving them a call. Will probably have the car in bits again this winter so may as well pull the box out, clean the casing up and get it sealed. Bloody sick of it making a mess everywhere!
