wanted Quaife 6 speed sequential gearbox for K series exige with or without lsd
Mark, are you sure you really want one? I was looking around for one when I had my S1 and the guys on the MGZR rally forum gave it a very negative review for reliability and gear jump out. They said it needs a lot more development. The guy might still have his for sale if you check the forum, he’s switched back to a regular dog box.
Steve Butts has got one for sale. With LSD. Have a look on SELOC.
Mark, this is the thread that put me off the sequential [color:#6666CC]xpower sequential[/color] I’ve had several Quaife synchro boxes and they’ve been very good but I didn’t like the sound of this review. Quaife might have improved it since then.
Oooops, I just realised Steve’s is not a sequential. As you were.
Quaife have improved it. I used to have problems with mine as did Daved Harvey, but David Harvey’s has been absolutly faultless for two seasons now. Dave’s mate, Alan Maple (also with a 340R) bought my gearbox and his has also been faultless for two years since i sold it. They gearbox was bad at the start and the development was done by the customers, but they seem to have sorted it now.
One thing I will say is the cable Quaife supply that connects the gearbox to the shifter is really bad. Dave and Alan (they are both very clever engineers) had a new cable made and connect it to the gearbox in a better way, so if you get one Marc, let me know and I will sort the cable out for you from Dave.
Not being funny, but without details of actual use eg track miles, it’s not easy to gauge reliability. Not saying it’s not reliable, cos I just don’t know, but trust you understand what I’m trying to say…
Fair comment, Dave does do a fair number of test and track days and is at virtually all of the LOT races, so I would say he does as many track miles as anyone.
One of these gearboxes shouldn’t be used on the road, straight cut gears are very loud and would totally do your head in in my opinion.
Good reply, Sean, you deserve some gravy
He’s a curry sauce man dude… …WEST MIDLANDS!
