Pyrenees - Barcelona - Madrid - Lissabon

Hi

Planning a drive around Spain and Portugal this summer. Any tips? Places to see and roads to drive?

R

Tip - make sure the aircon works!

Tip: Use Parador hotels in Spain. You will not be disappointed and they are not overly expensive.
Tip: Do try the Spanish Reds with dinner - they are very good now.
Tip: Beware unexpected and unannounced road closures in the mountains.

If leaving from the UK take the ferry to Bilbao (much nicer than Santander) and leave a day or two to see the city on the way home.

Try and stay in a couple of paradors in Spain - usually fantastic old buildings converted to hotels.

Spend some time in the interior of Spain - some great roads and sights but usually very hot in the summer.

If in southern Portugal try and visit the motor circuit at Portimao - better than Spa!

Instead of heading to the Pyrenees try turning in the opposite direction and visit the Picos de Europa.

Do the ’ Pots & Pans’ road through the Picos de Europa.

Paradors are the hotels to use, but prebook if you can , as some of them are very popular , and get busy in the Summer

Thanx for the tips guy’s. Picos de Europa sounds great.

AC? I’ll just make sure my SC is working

AC? is that mean i can never drive my S1 to Spain in summer then i guess?? i will probably get roasted in cabin with the temp and cabin heat!!!

Just think of that Top Gear episode with James May in the Aston Martin racecar!

Never ruined any of my continental jaunts - just made the 1st beer at the end of each day taste that much nicer
