After 36K trouble free miles in the Racing Pug 107 since Jan 06, I thought I’d replace it with a Renault Twingo GT. As it’s a company car (my own company), & I do about 18K miles pa, I was looking for a low emission/low running cost/low personal tax motor, with performance not a priority, cos that’s why I have the Exige. There were 3 Renault dealers I could pop into today whilst out & about, all within 20 miles of home. First one didn’t have a GT in stock, 2nd one did, so I went for a looksie, but the third appeared to be offering the best deal. So off I toddled to the latter, arriving at about 3pm to see if I could do a deal.
Much to my surprise, in the middle of the showroom, was a “Manager’s Special” in the exact spec I would have chosen. So I went for it & left the showroom at 4pm, & will be collecting my new motor on Weds next week.
On a recent thread I mentioned that I was very impressed with a couple Clio Cup Racers, which were out on track with a few of us Exigers - hence the “money where my my mouth” bit comes in.
The pre-amble in the above post was just that really… just a little tale of how I set off to buy one thing, & ended up with something which wasn’t even the slighest consideration beforehand.
PS On another thread I had said that I think that the S1 Exige would look good in Renault Racing Blue.
PPS Somehow I’ve got to tell the missus about this - she had no idea I was thinking about changing cars
PPPS At least I’ll be out of her way from Thurs to Sun next week - LOTRDC @ Brands
197’s are cracking cars, my mate had on for a while… hope you got the recaros!
Unfortunately it hasn’t got Recaros. Went for a short “demo” drive this afternoon, hadn’t intended to, as I went to the Dealer’s to sort out a few bits & bobs, & he chucked me the keys. Must say, it felt great, but I was only trundling along in a 40mph limited area for 5 minutes (there aren’t any canyons in Wigan, as far as I know…)
Interested to understand your thinking regarding not going the route of a personal car and claiming the mileage allowance.
Steve
There’s no easy idea to that question - it all depends upon personal circumstances, so it’s not ideal to discuss on a public forum. However, happy to elucidate when we next meet Which leads on to “will you be at Brands next weekend?”
Talking about next weekend, is there an Exiges parking area? Might be tmpted to come along on Sunday but only if I can park sensibly as I have no other car to use
Nice car, nice price Assume you got a bit of a deal as well so looks like a bargain to me. Great choice.
Cheers Will - yep managed to negotiate a bit more - bearing in mind I’d pre-arranged the visit to see the sales guy to discuss Twingos, & just happened to see the Clio at a very attractive price! Being able to put a deposit down to secure a deal with no p/x /finance also helped, I suspect.
Added, totally unexpected bonus was that upon getting home to organise insurance to get it registered, I’ve got a policy with cover for 4 trackdays too, for under 500!
PS Standard seats seem very good, so although I’d have preferred Recaros, I’m dead happy with the deal.
