The outer fits in the bracket under the gear box but the rose joint has bottemed out and there’s no more adjustment. The inner seems like it should be 10mm or so shorter at a guess.
What am I doing wrong???
Also show there be some E clips or something to hold the rose joints on the selector arms?
The abutment bracket under the gearbox has slotted mounting holes so should have some adjustment in it, otherwise how much thread is showing after the rose joint and locknut? - you might be able to shorten the threaded section as a last resort.
Just been out to have a look and I can see the adjustment slots. I can’t pust the bracket back because the cables are so fat that they restrict the adjustment and wedge against the gearbox. I’m starting to think these cables aren’t for the standard set up.
ok, modified the gearbox with a file so the the fat cables now fit. Still have a problem with the forward backwards cable. Shortened the threaded part by 12.5638mm and tried again. Better but not great. Now I’ve run out of thread on the cable and more would need cutting.
Also the left right action on the gear stick is not spring back. When I disconnect the cables from the box the mechanism seems to be working fine. Any ideas???
I’d guess that the new rod ends are still a little tight from lack of use and restricting movement a little.
If that’s not the case then there’s a nut and locknut on the gearchange mechanism that if overtight can restrict the self-centring. Parts 30 and 31 on the picture.
Elise-shop who have been helpfull and never had this problem before. In total I’ve cut about 14mm of the thread on the cable and had to extend the thread in order to get the gears. The left right cable is still not self centering. Something must be out of alignment somewhere to cause the resistance in the cable.
I forgot to say that my car has a quick shift. This now has to be used in the not so quick shift position because the end of the forward backwards cable hits the metal below when trying to select 5th gear.
