pre season maintainance /upgrades

having failed spectaculary to get on track more than once last year
my new years resolution is to “do some more” in 2012,hopefully including a couple of exiges / mloc days.

my 06 na car has done 20k road miles and 4 track days and i am plannig to have it looked over by a local motorsport garage in next couple of weeks to check all is in good order for year. i fitted some 36mm 2 way ohlins in autumn so expect i might be a bit quicker through the bends and therfore putting a bit more stress on car going forward…after my additional driver training

its seems that toe-links might be worthwhile upgrading, but the 600 on a couple of sites for nitrons scared me, is there a similar / less top end option that will fulfil my needs,
also considering new engine mounts after reading positive comments from many on here, again are the inserts a decent enough upgrade to notice and improvement rather than going the whole hog?

i want things to a good standard, not a cheap standard but am concious that sometimes we just buy the most expensive and it may be over doing things?

as ever any thoughts / ideas / experiences welcome

p.s my feckin heater as packed up again, thats 3 in 2 lotus’s!!

The inserts are fine and give less vibration than going the whole hog. Plus they are pretty quick and easy job to fix.

I didn’t think there was a problem with S2 toe links? I deffo know there isnt on the later cars.

Toe links on the SC cars are ok, the N/A ones I think need extra braces to make them double shear?

also the early inner joints on the toe links on SC cars are made of cheese, but the later replacements are ok

Brake fluid, engine mounts, toe links, suspension bushes, geo.

Not sure what disks/pads you’re running but at the very least you should upgrade to Pagid pads.

Think ill have to invest in some of them insert bushes seem like a cheep good mod

For an occasional track driver I see no need to immediately change stuff …
Maybe as suggested previously a brake fluid change …

thx for replies folks

so concencus is inserts - yes

i had brake fluid changed after last track day as precaution as i was was getting some judder, and therefore fade, im runnig sbs pads which had felt better, more progressive and strong than the OEM ones i ran my 1st couple of trackdays on.
maybe time for new disks? they are worn and show some slight ridging??

however no one has commented on the toe links, is 600 the going rate then?

cheers

Hi Rich, good to see you are intending to do some more track days in 2012 - me to, only did 3 in 2011. Spa in March?
Harvey.

Can’t fault the Nitron toe links since I fitted them.
