Just calculated that being heavier than an S2 the power to weight ratio of the new V6 Exige is actually less than a well sorted S2 …
Being 16% heavier it would need 356 bhp to better what mine achieves power to weight wise …
Whiteysback,s car comprehensively blows it away too !
Admittedly it has more torque but not a worldly amount more …
Bet it has a gearbox that stays in one piece too
And costs a lot less!!!

Thats kind of what I thoughts tbh…
My cars already up there with the v6 in terms of Bhp/tonne. Just needs a remap with the smaller pulley for 330bhp - hopefully will be moving to the syvecs ecu in the process.
To be fair the same argument has always applied the vx220. You can buy a 2.2 for 6.5k. The chargecooled GM supercharger kit (factory fitted in the states) is 3.5k fitted (2.5k if you diy) for 265bhp. Slap a set of Ohlins/Nitrons and some A048’s on and you have a car that is lighter and faster than a 260cup for a fraction of the cost…didn’t stop us all buying exiges though.
True about the VX , I also think I will miss the supercharger whine and the high reving 1.8 in the S2 but I think the torque is the selling point of the V6 , I’m not sure any of the tuned Exige S2 makes 300ft and that’s just for starters , imagine a tuned 440hp one .
You would need a big turbo and a 2 litre conversion to get 300lb/ft out of our 4 pot
Hey I have a tuned 1.8 lt. Exige that make an easy 420 ft tq.
Not sure Id want all that torque tbh.
Lots of torque (particularly low down the rev range) is good up until a certain amount. Makes the car easier more relaxed to drive, and actually feel faster than it is - great in an everyday commuting car. Assuming you dont go for silly numbers.
The down side in a lightweight car is when you get to certain level of torque, the car just becomes a handful. A 300bhp/200ftlb supercharged S2 exige handles the power easily. No traction issues, and very linear power up until the rev limiter. 300bhp/300ftlb in a vx220 turbo for example is a lot more of a handful. On/off power delivery, and bags of torque low down the rev range that will happily light the wheels up in the dry under acceleration - not the case in the exige! Both very different power delivery, but ultimately just as quick as each other in a straight line. Just one breaks traction easier than the other.
I think the same applies to the exige v6. The torque will be great on the motorway in 6th, but a handful on a twist road/track in the wet. Particularly if someone maps it to 400bhp!
it’s got a whole load more rubber out back though
With great power comes great responsibility. You wouldn’t go tearing through the twisties in the rain in any 2WD car with 400 ft tq. even if you only have two brain cells firing…
Linear torque is the secret to a well balanced setup.
2150 lbs. S2 and 420 ft. tq. no drama.

300lb/ft of SC power is not too bad if it is linear, 300lb/ft from a turbo that come in one sudden burst is the ruin of many a VX Turbo
What’s my 550bhp going to be like ???
Slow…
I do fancy the new v6 Exige but like lots of you with tuned s2’s we’d all be mad to sell our cars and pay double (or treble) the money again to buy another Exige with less power to weight.
If chasing numbers is the game probably better to buy a tidy early S2 Exige for 18k and send it off to JSR for a full on Audi conversion.
In any case 330 bhp in an Exige that weighs circa 945kg’s is plenty. I’ve clocked up 9 points in the last 6 months as proof. if anything I should be sticking some sand bags in my boot and taking the supercharger off (!)
Itx not always about numbers…
I remember buying the 2-11 to race in Elise trophy against the old hondas, duratec and audis that were running back then. I was always asked why spend that amount on a car when you can go faster for less…
Of course not everybody will want a ten year old car with a secondhand engine that constantly needs attention… Sometimes something new is far more desirable than something better… Irrespective of cost!
Amen to that.
