I am simply waiting for Simon to respond to the many questions I have asked about his postings and substantiation of the many claims he has made. Since many of these question my capabilities, competence and integrity I think I have the right to expect answers to them, however none have been forthcoming.
I have already gone on record saying that I support what Simon is doing and I have never attacked that and have tried to avoid attacking him personally, it is simply the way he goes about it that is a problem.
I suspect that a lot of others are trying not to get involved.
Dave,
It seems you you both fell out and that`s a shame,as I would say you are two best auothorities on the K.In fact in my opinion the only.Try and stop argueing the pair of you and start again.
Jonny
Argument is one thing, postings which contain statements which are proven to be lies and are desgined to discredit are quite another.
Innacurate postings and those that contain disinformation which through ignorance of, or distortion of the facts should not go unchallenged.
I have tried many times in the past to persuade Simon not to do this, unfortunately he has continued.
The damage is done, there is no easy way back, there are a number of remedies open to me and other targets , fortunately for Simon we have decided to allow the dust to settle and give Simon the opportunity to retract an apologise.
What`s up,are some people just waiting for Simon to to post so you can try and rip him up like a pack of hounds!?
I see you are a relatively new member, and for that you deserve to be cut some slack, but you have totally misjudged what this board is all about. There has never been that type of activity on here and that’s to the credit of all the regular posters who are all far too level headed to get into some of the antics more common on some of the other sites.
somewhat bemused that Mr Erland is considerd one of the best authorities on the K, when as far as I can recollect he may be passionate about it but what so far has he achieved, No results so far to speak of, nothing that from what I remember from his 1st post is actually cheap, and none have made the power he said was so easy to find.
Dave on the other hand has umpteen years of experience of the K has worked on engines probably longer than I have been alive, I consider him to be very knowledgeable on the rover K, especially after seeing how well steve Butts car goes.
Mr Erland has many years to catch up, also from what ive read over several posts some serious apologising to do after trying to tarnish Daves reputation which im guessing Dave gets a lot of recomendations from.
Having obviously lied about just about everything he has mentioned, people and companies, who have replied to his accusations proving this.
Would I give Mr Erland any of my money or let him carry out any engine work on my car(if it still had the rover k in it) after what ive read, NO WAY!
How could anyone possibly trust him, or belive him?
Just my view, other people may differ, I dont post very often but after reading several pages of threads I thought I would say something.
There are a lot of k series graphs up on dyno-plot.co.uk now - lots of them represent work DVA was doing years ago with the elise community, information freely given, no veil of secrecy over the power outputs - just good honest tuning.
Still waiting to see an actual graph from a “kingK” engine.

Ia m trying to track down the graph from one of my engines which is identical to Uldis’s but made 238BHP and 158lb/ft, if I can find it I will post it.

cheers, its interesting in a historical way, to see how far the k series has come. A process in which you have been a huge (if not major) influence.
in the meantime, in a sorting the men from the boys type fashion (apples and pears I know)
must be 25bhp difference @ 6750rpm and also fineshed a fair bit stronger as well. There is no single place on the curve were it is bettered by the Earland effort.
Yeah, but what on earth is happening around 7000rpm!
To a numpty like me, Simon’s engine appears to have much better characteristics.
Ian
what? the bit were it has only 10ft/lb more than Erlands?
I would guess at induction lengths - but thats purely a guess, steve (or someone else that actually knows) could say more.
Steve could also say if its noticable when driven but look at it again - at every point in the rev range its out performing the Erland engine (the only plot he seems to have “allowed” to go public) - Uldis may be marveling at the shape of his curve but he will be doing so from about 100 yards back If they wer similarly performing engines then you would prefer the smoother curve but Butts engine is so more advanced in terms of build and performance that its just not really comparible.
The flattest torque curve is from the engine when it is not running, I prefer the one with the bumps on.
At all points in the RPM range the torque is ahead and therefore the engine will be pulling harder, there may be a dip in Steve’s curve, but even with this dip it is still higher than Uldis’s peak figure. In fact from 4000 to 8000 apart from one tiny dip Steve’s torque is higher than Uldis’s peak figure which is only acheived over 6500. Realistically it is slaughtered. I dont think you will see a big queue of people choosing 15% less torque. There is a world of difference between the all or nothing nature of the Toyota and the torque curve of both engines.
And would some of you gvuys stop delving on “claims”? Maybe he just got carried away with it.
And sod the “release”.
I’m very happy with my modest power, and johnboy, you already know that driver skill is the most determinig factor at almost any track. And in that sense I’m not that shabby
Here’s my power graph, the green one is the one I’m running now.
The difference between the blue one and the green one was just a change of exhaust to the 2bular one (Jim’s).
And no, I don’t feel the lack of power from 2750 to 4500 rpm, that’s sedate-speed rpm range.
But I DO feel the 1000-2750rpm extra torque, as it’s traffic rpm, makes it VERY easy to drive in traffic, no need to play with the clutch to go.
The obvious part I like more is from 5K onwards.
I could choose to have the other exhaust but the JV3 is the one I like most
I’m working in KL for the week so won’t be seeing your good/bad/colourful replies
Ah, forgot, remember this is NOT a power engine, it’s been built on the cheap side and with reliability in mind. Basically 1mm over intake valves (I thought it had +1mm exhaust also but Simon clarified), porting and Piper 1444.
And the exhaust
Sorry Uldis, but your statement that it is not a power engine just does not make any sense. It has big valves, afully ported head and the largest TBs available together with the cams acknowledged to give the maximum output from the K series. Just what else could you add to make it a power engine? Whether your engine is reliable in the long term remains to be seen, I hope it is. One thing is for sure , there are many engines out there with similar specs making a lot more power and some have been doing so for years.
