Possible S2 engine upgrades

Hi All
I have a friend in Germany who has just I think pretty much trashed his engine. From memory he has a bog standard Exige from around 2005ish.

I have no idea at all about the S2’s really, so I have a couple of questions - is it possible to upgrade from the base Toyota unit to the more powerful later derivatives and is there any place that might have access to secondhand units?

Of course checking the classifieds will be an option but wondered if any one had any better ideas or tips in general.

We always have new & rebuitd units on the shelf, options are endless so it’s a case of budget really.

Many thanks for the information Steven. Is there any known issues in terms of general fit between the Engine types or is it fit one fit all?

There only is one Toyota engine 2zz-ge. Its just some cars have a super charger and some don’t. Then varying ECU maps over the years offering varying horsepower ratings.
