Porsche boxster/cayman engine and gearbox.

Before I start I would like to say that this is purely out of curiosity at the moment.

A friend of mine has just bought a porsche Cayman s. Nice enough car, not my bag but I couldnt help thinking that the engine and gearbox would be nice in our exige :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m going to attempt to get some cad data for the car but in the mean time does anyone know what the rough dimensions might be for the drivetrain, would it even be within the realms of possabilty?

Discuss

I’m pretty sure it won’t fit all the v6 have been fitted transversly, so without making a new rear subframe and clam not a chance :frowning:

It is a nice idea though

Not really expecting it to fit without some surgery, my main concern would be if the engine would fit up against the firewall and leave the rear wheels even close to where they currently are on the exige.

the gearbox can hang out of the rear anyway which would look ok.

If you look at this pic the drive shafts apper to come out at the rear of the engine which if you lined them up with the exige wheels the front of the engine would end up in your back

Thanks for that Mike, looks like the rear wheels would have to move back around 200mm even if it did fit width wise. Would end up looking like that hennessey venom :astonished:

There was the Audi RS4(?) powered car done a few years ago that used a similar layout, can’t find any pictures at the moment though

That car had a lengthened wheel base and the driveshaft angles were still horrible.

I like the boxster engine idea, but I do think it would be way to big. I’ve seen one on a ramp and the engine and box are pretty damn big!!!

Pics of that car here

I think you’re right, that audi engine elise does look better proportioned than the venom but still a little odd.

I’ll still try to get the cad so we can have a proper look.
