Plug Leads

Having great difficulty removing plug leads from plugs. Is there a trick to this or is brute force required?
Managed to get one off but struggling with the rest. Can’t seem to get enough leverage even using two hands in confined space.

Magnecor have some instructions for this - but mine are at home and I’m at work right now! Not sure if they are on their website?

Something about letting air in/out from the plug end. There’s also something about some leads you can twist slightly and some others that you must not

I’ll dig them out later if you don’t get any further before then.

You have a PM

Thanks

Discovered when I finally got the leads off(Thanks in part to Steve Green’s assistance) that No1 plug hole(!) and lead connector was the only one of the four that was discoloured. It looked like there had been water in there . . . and sand. Airline will be reqd to clean out “sand” at plug base before attempting to remove plug.
The bakelite piece on plug lead looked like it had a sandy coloured tide mark on it. God knows where that came from.
Cleaned out all leads with cotton buds, WD40 all round. Started, wouldn’t idle for a while then on road ran clean past 4,500 and 5,000. But misfire later reappeared at 5k. It’s a mystery.

Easy, you’re getting water through the roof vent and it goes in through the boot to the plug.
The plug by now is arching on the outside, need to fit new plugs.

When you took the car for a spin, the ECU detected that there was this slight misfire going on and went into safe mode, not letting the engine rev past 5000.

Solution: new plugs and avoid getting water in there (I got some sealing foam on the edges of the plastic cover so that water cannot get in, other have bought an S2 plastic cover, if you like that)

Ah, thanks. Uldis. The car seems to rev well enough once it’s past the 5k mark so do you think the safe mode is in play here?
There is an Exige metal cover over leads and looking at it I would have thought that would have kept water out. It’s going for MoT soon so will have new plugs fitted and seal as suggested. And I still have that wheel sensor to look at. At least it gives me something to do and I can imagine I have a grip on these matters mechanical and electrical!

If it’s revving past 5K, safe mode is not in play, just the duff spark plugs.

I have the same metal cover and it doesn’t seal water on its own, unless you put some foam sealing tape in its inner edges, then it’s Ok.

Make a point on reminding the garage to get all the sand out before changing the plugs, otherwise they won’t.
