Please help me choose my next mod

Ok, thinking about treating myself again and buying something neat for my Elise R '09.
I know that there are quite a few members here who frequently track their Lotus, so thought this might be the right place to ask

Currently she has the following spec:

hlins, AP-Racing, Chassis Brace Kit, Carbon Race Seats, Cup Wheels with A048LTS, Harness Bar & Harnesses.
I also have a Stage 1 on order since June…

so what should be the next step ?

I have thought about either

  • a Pro Alloy fuel tank (I happen to experience fuel starvation on some circuits)

  • cancel my Stage 1 order and buy a lighter exhaust (problem: lighter means louder, and I might get black-flagged)

  • digital recording system with bullet cam (like the PDR100, although they will probably bring out an HD model any time soon?)

  • I thought about installing the battery cut-off switch & fire extinguisher system, like jonnyfox, but I guess this mod is too difficult for me.

  • something else ?

I know that some of you might want to suggest “tuition” and right you are of course… this is also planned for next year.

Any ideas are most appreciated!

Thanks for your input.
I have the DL1 Datalogger & Dash3 combo from Race-Technology. The Dash3 is fully programmable and also has LEDs.

Oops, sorry!

Dude the extinguisher and isolator were easy and lesss than 1k alll in so a 2bular GT3 and eliminator is not so far out either…+ it looks fooking way better that Boothy’s lol

Motorsport ECU (lower cam change)?
Accusump?

Exhaust and a race battery, will save you +20kg. You can still get a lighter system and stay 98db.

Oh I forgot to mention that I already have the ECU upgrade.
Accusump might be an idea (though not essentially needed on a N/A I think?), thanks

Hey Damon,

below 98 dB on the second cam, please tell me more

btw I think that 20 kg is a bit optimistic, the original battery weighs between 10-12 kg, a race battery like Odyssey PC680 saves about 5-7 kg? The exhaust saves probably 6-8 kg if it is titanium…

I wish it were possible to save 20 kg with those 2 mods though.

haha!

but when I look at all the cables in your photo tutorial I get all dizzy already
I wouldn’t know where to begin…

My battery was 14.4kg. 5.5kg for the Harley Red Top battery.

I don’t have the data sheet to hand but changing from stock cat and catback to 2bular was over 12kg so not far off. When I next have the system off I’ll re-weigh both and be more definitive.

I believe you. I will look into this 2bular system, it seems to be popular here

:astonished: but it will cost way more than 50p and a roll of sticky back plastic

Mmmm more Boothy porn

Damon, the 111r exhaust is not as heavy as the Exige S exhaust so the weight saving will be less.
Best to contact Jim at 2bular for specs and prices, he does some low weight and quiet systems that might suit, most important to tell him what you want and he will suggest you options. There is always a wait for Jim but always worth it
Panel eliminator or the 211 rear panel is a good idea as well the weight savings work out cheap, have you considered a Morrosow sump? The fuel tank does save weight and mine has fixed the fuel starvation issues, bit of a pain to fit but it is worth the struggle.

Thanks to everyone for their contribution. I have finally chosen to buy the Pro-Alloy tank.
Now I need to find out how to do the install myself

Would be interested in a write up of fitting the tank

firstly you need the car quite high in the air and also you need the torque setting for the sheer panel bolts (I’m told this is important!) I watched the guys at proalloy fit mine as it was the developement tank. It was fidly to get the filler neck off and on, when removing and refitting the tank the gear change cable really got in the way and you have to disconnect the handbrake cable, ther is also some foam above the tank that neededto be modified. I hope this helps it is all I remember
