Piper X 285 cams 'ultimate road cams' S2 Exige

Been asked to post this by a fellow Exiger who is having a spot of bother registering

Piper X 285 cams ‘ultimate road cams’ for Toyota 2ZZ-GE (Used)

Had them fitted to my Exige in June this year. The cams work fine with the stock ECU. The result is a smoother cam change, feeling of more torque on first cam but a lumpy idle. I am selling as the cams are not compatible with my next tuning project.

To get the most out of these cams a mappable ECU is recommended.

PTP are selling the Piper X ‘fast road’ cams for 622 http://www.ptp-ltd.co.uk/shop/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=701

450 + 25 p&p (they are heavy)

Has anyone actually installed and dyno’d a set of these yet?

I believe Dan (roadboy) at Jude Performance installed the cams and dyno’d after installation.

Indeed.

So, what were the before & after figures, Dan?

PS Your “converted” Elise is looking good

You cant just say ‘indeed’ and then not post up about it!!

lol!

Top end was exactly the same but theer were gains in the midrange.

Figures don’t really do them justice but having driven it both with and without the cams its a massive improvement. The power band goes from being 2k wide to being 4k wide.

Oh, and the idle, although lumpy, is not bad at all and more like an Exige should be. It’ll never stall or anything.

Very interested

What is fitting time/cost? Will I need new followers?

I have reflashed ECU… is this an issue?

Fitting is 2-3 hours.

I can’t see how the ECU reflash would make any difference to the performance of the cams, to be honest, it may help the power delivery slightly.

Dan@JPS

are these cam sold yet?

I might be interested if you are willing to ship oversea.
Thank you

As far as I’m aware they’re still available…drop Simon an email on [email protected] as he’s still having a spot of bother getting on the board.

Cheers

Finally Ive been approved!

The cams are mine and where fitted to my Exige S2 and I ran them for about 1.5k miles. I also had a Piper X carbon induction kit and one of Jims excellent 2Bular stage 2 style back boxes. Everything else was standard.

The reason I fitted the cams was to try and improve the flat spot before the cam change which I really do not like. Extra power top end would have been a bonus. As Dan says the top end power was the same but the mid range felt stronger and the cam change was much smoother. Only down side was a lumpy idle which was like a VHPD and a slight over fuel when the second cam kicked in.

Piper recommends using their long header which they claim will give up to 220bhp. Im not aware that this has been achieved with a Lotus so may be they are referring to the Celica? Dan and I felt that a mappable ECU would be the best option to get more out of these cams.

I have reduced the askiing price to 350 + 20 uk p&p
