Passenger ride in london on the off chance?

Hi all,

I’ve been lurking for a while but it’s getting to the point where I need to decide if this car is for me or not.

There’s a chance I might be buying an exige blind (condition won’t be a problem it will be inspected, just a question of whether or not the car as a whole is for me.)

I was wondering with that in mind if anyone in or near to north/north west london, might be willing to offer me a passenger ride tomorrow morning.

It’s late notice, so no bother if it can’t happen, but the weather has been good lately, so I was hoping one of you enthusiasts might have been taking to the road anyway.

If anyone is up for it, please pm me.

Thanks in advance either way.

Adam

whats your concerns?

I’m not sure really!

Harshness of ride, difficulty of egress ingress - I’m only 5ft 8 though.

Does it feel special enough as it’s only being used for fun - not my everyday car.

how fast/slow is it in standard form - It’s model dependent I know.

The car I am looking to buy is a 320bhp S2, but my ultimate goal for the car was to start with an elise or an NA exige and drop the audi 2.0 tfsi engine in it. It doesn’t make huge sense to do that to this particular car, but for the price, I can’t ignore that I could buy it and avoid the hassle.

Only downside for me is I love to modify and this one may have had all the best bits done already.

Anyway, thats car dependent, so, for a test drive, I just want to gauge the feel of the car, the size the height, the scale, the weight, the quality, the ease of working on it, that kind of thing.

– I’m 6ft & 102KG and can get in n out fine, bit close in the garage though.

– This is what the Lotus does best, feels special at 30mph through richmond highstreet where other cars feel like minicabs.

– Depends, straight line speed isn’t amazing but enough to make you laugh. It’s the bends that you’ll love.

– That’ll be fast as f**k, but over 300hp and the gearbox on toyota cars can get brittle. Mines a Lowly elise (I know I’m a party crasher here) but with a Honda K20 lump I’m slowly modding.

Only downside for me is I love to modify and this one may have had all the best bits done already.

– If you love to mod any lotus will keep you happy, however again once over 300hp things get expensive as you’re into built bottom ends and gearbox work. If you have the pockets for it, buy a base NA or 220 S and go see JSR for a Audi lump or Simon Scuffham for a Honda lump. Both will see you with a platform you can mod to hell n back.

– I love working on mine, they’re simple cars and the quality of the aftermarket is great.

I think if I had deep pockets I’d be also looking at a europa street sleeper with big power.

It is a bit short notice but many of us meet for TDs so maybe best popping along to one of them Adam. I’d not buy that 320bhp car if modding is your thing. Start as beens said NA or 220… lol. Actually if my agenda wasn’t already set Audi with JSR would be a fine way to go.

yeah drive in, smoke em out

JSR demo day? :stuck_out_tongue:

Passenger ride sorted for this am.

Seems you lot are as friendly and accommodating as the last forum users I knew, which is impressive as previously they’d been an exception!

Yes I’d rather avoid the modded, but at the price I think I can get it for, I could return it to stock and start from scratch or choose my own route and have everything I’d want to buy paid for.

I’ve modded enough cars to know you ont get your money back, but equally, I’m not paying for them in the first place.

The key thing is, 80% of the mods are bits I’m going to have to do such as charge cooler brakes and suspension.

Then fines tuff is not my thing, but at least the rest is a great base for me to start from.

I’m sure I could sell the engine and gearbox combination to fund my Audi plans.

Why does everyone mention jsr exclusively? I’ve not spoken to them yet, I was planning on speaking to psr because of his successful conversion of a 2.0 this which was my engine of choice, whereas everyone else seems to be going for 1.8s!

Either way, I think there’s fun on the horizon.

If you want an audi conversion then JSR are the guys, if you are London based and want to stick with the Toyota power then Essex Autosport (formally Sinclaires) will be right for you as they are in Romford
hope the test drive went well

Test drive was great!

Provisionally agreed to purchase an exige s, just depends on the seller buying something new or not.

Excellent, you will not regret it

How has the seller got the claimed 320BHP ?

Would be interested to know.

Ex77

look forward to seeing what you get!

Hi Adam

I’m also on here!

For everyone else, I took Adam out for a passenger ride yesterday morning and we had a chat about his potential new toy. As I understand it the car is an 06 exige S, which has had a hanger 111 320 upgrade and a load of other stuff and apparently made 317bhp on the dyno. It also has a lot of carbon bits and sounds like it’s done a fair bit of track work - which as we all know isn’t a problem with these cars.

I’m looking forward to seeing it myself.

Cheers Will

Yep,

Big thanks to Will,

Well the deal is done and secured.

I’ve still not seen the car but have it on good authority that it looks and feels like new.

I’d appreciate any feedback you can give me, I’ve still never driven one!!

The details are as follows:

Titanium, 32k miles, with sports pack, Air Con, Harness etc, 1 owner from new, all work and maintainance by Greg at Hanger 111.

Komotec 320S kit , with a confirmed 317bhp
Up rated injectors
Up rated fuel pump
Baffled sump
Komotec water jacketed charge cooler - this may have been changed to their racing chargecooler - checking with hangar111 - lovely people!!!
Komotec exhaust with sports cat , and quicksilver manifold
Nitron adjustable suspension with up rated Eibach progressive springs
Up rated anti roll bar
Lotus AP big brake kit
Lotus Forged Motorsport Alloys
Reverie carbon front splitter and rear wing.

Only thing I am not sure I like is it has the 5 spoke lotus motorsport forged wheels from the 240r.

I will probably sell those in favour of something else.

I am told it comes with all the standard bits too apart from the manifold.

Should be fun!

They will sell well, you might find a colour change of the wheels would be better, the 240R wheels are just about the best wheels you can have and are like hens teeth

I don’t think I’ll rush in to doing anythnig until I’ve had some time with the car. I suspect it will be parked up for most of winter, but I feel a lot happier not using a car of this value, than I did in the GTR.

I think the 240R wheels are the nuts.
The car will probably be astonishingly fast. I didn’t see gearbox mods on the list. So , it shouldn’t take you too long to get into the modding you crave.

Sounds nice.

As Ade says the 240R wheels are the ones to have. If you ever decide to change them you will have plenty of peeps wanting them.

I have them and cant remember how many times I have been asked “if you ever want to sell them”

I’ll bear that in mind, but if there really is no lightweight alternative, I’d be inclined to keep them.

The gearbox has been treated with respect so far, and my driving style has always been mechanically very sympathetic. I am hoping I can hold it together for as long as possible.

I’ll look in to the optins for gearbox strengthening. Can I ask how much of the strengthening bill is labour and how much is parts because I have soe great contacts when it comes to gearbox rebuilding expertise.

10 hours gearbox removal and refit, and 7 hours for the gearbox rebuild with Jubu gears, then if tracking the car a gearbox oil cooler is a really good idea, not sure of the labour or cost of that JSR are the guys for those, the Jubu gear are about 700 I think
