pads...

seems i need some new pads. done a bit of research and the cl’s will be coming off…altho from the little time ive used them they have been ok…no track days with them tho…

i have narrowed it down to the rs42 or the rs14…

which would you recommend. and more importantly, where would you suggest to buy them…

many thanks…

  1. RS 14

For no track days and fast road use the RS42 is probably your best bet. RS14’s are not great when stone cold.

If you want to do track days then CL6’s or performance friction.

Stay away from CL5+'s.

fast road then yes, RS42 I agree
Track, RS14 everyday

thanks guys, good advice as always…

There have been some issues with RS14 pads on AP discs on track lately, this has led to people moving over to PF pads. Quite disappointing as I had used RS14’s for years and something changed in the compound were I found them difficult on the road and they damaged my discs :frowning:

its only got the ultimax discs on…would this be the same???

Shame about your findings ade. Like you I’ve used them for years with no problems. Just fitted a new set, so fingers crossed, only road use mine gets is to and from circuits.

I loved the feel of RS14’s on track but always had issues with pad transfer on the disc. Both on 2 pots and 4 pots.

I am very happy with CL6’s and would recomend them for track work.

I started off with RS42’s which were a great all round pad but lacked that ultimate stopping power on track.

Friend has tried the RS15’s which he rates but I have no personal experience.

Let us know what happens, I contacted them when they ruined my discs on their first outing and I know other people did as well, you never know they might have sorted it, the PF pads are the best pads I have ever used if you can ignore the hideous dust when first using them.

RS14’s will eat them for breakfast - I like lots of people on here have tried numerous pad/disc combo’s and on the recommendation of JSR and others switched to PF’s last year before Spa - didn’t have one issue on 2 days on track and fine on the drive home in the pouring rain.

Still on the car and going strong with unmarked discs - PF’s every day for me

Chris,
'scuse my ignorance , but what are PF’s ???

agreed podger, im guessing performance friction, but what model etc would i require…

http://www.eliseparts.com/products/show/22/1052/performance-friction-brake-pads/

would they do the trick???

Scatty, Glad it wasn’t / isn’t just me !!

Chris ? Your knowledge please !

Yep, Performance Friction. Best pads I’ve ever used (once initial brake dust is got rid of!), & I always buy from JSR.

Another vote for PF. I had years of brake woes until JSR fitted my 4pot and PF setup.

PF’s from JSR for me, my brakes are MEGA!

SRF and braided hoses also…

Not sure about knowledge

I used rs14’s for ages and they came on my car from new. Lots of 10 lap and beyond issues on TD’s so tried PF’s purchased and fitted by JSR.

As Jonny says brakes are not something I even worry about - mega is the word.
I have also done the SRF fluid and also changed the std drilled AP discs for the vaned ones
The std drilled discs don’t help as the holes get clogged by deposits etc

To be fair they’ve not got much to stop and it wouldn’t be going that fast in the first place

Only kidding - all us S2 boys envy the diet you cars been on
