Pad performance comparison

AP have put a few brake pads through a performance test on their brake dyno. It makes interesting reading

No data for RS14’s

Or SBS’s

Excellent!

Apparently AP do a lot of testing and will have the data for most pads. If there are any missing give them an email as a concerned customer and they sould be able to fill in the gaps

Which of the Ferodo pads do you use, please? (Save me doing a search!)

Ferodo DS2500.

If you look at the tests, they seem very much like a road pad

To put this into perspective, he ones that Russ tried and didn’t like were Mintex F4R.
I liked those, but one thing that the tests don’t say is deposits. The F4R leaves a deposit that sticks to the Powder-coating like hot metal dust to a wax candle.

So, in reality, the ones I have liked best are of no use to me because I don’t have a race team and can’t afford to swap wheels after avery session (and have someone clean them).
Not good when you have to drive back from a track with all that dust.

The Ferodos DS2500 can take the abuse and don’t squel, but I have managed to make them fade slightly after a few (too many) laps. Not a severe fade, since even after doing it, you can carry on.

I have always classed the DS2500 as a road pad. We recomend them and use them on vertually all of the fast road Cosworths we deal with.

I guess the weight of the car is the major factor here. A road trimmed Escort Cosworth weighs over 1,400Kg’s so a pad that seems hard on a 700kg car, melts like butter on something twice the weight. They will handle a 15 minute track session on an Escort Cossie, but no more really.

Our cars rock man, light weight is deffo the way forward!!

Sean…

Agree, because they’re lasting longer in my car than the Pagids RS14

Just out of interest how long do the RS14s last?

Me: 2 trackdays and about 1K miles road use

Pesky: forever.

Pesky: forever.

Don’t know when Brendan last changed them but they had over half the pad left when I got it. 2k road miles and one track day later I was down the rivets on the front

Strange though as the rears still have half left

Apparently you are not to worry about the rivets - I have been caught out in thinking that if you can see them then it cant be far off having to change them. However, the rivets start to show after less than half the original pad depth is gone.
