Andy D has just rolled up to the motel in his stunning Honda’d S1 for the track day tomorrow at Wakefield Park, about 1 hour NE of Canberra! Followed by a ‘Sprint’ day on Friday! His car looks the biz (I DO miss Shrek guys!!!)
The best bit is I get to have a drive too!!! So excited to get behind the wheel again… my last TD was in Shrek at Donny! Only done 2 laps in a Honda car with Martin E several years ago… will seem bloody fast compared with the diesel 4WD!
Lots of very cool Loti here!!! A fully prepped Scura and some very high end mods to Exiges and Elises! I have the iPhone so will post some piccies tomorrow!
Yesterday was an ‘open street’ day, but mainly Lotus guys there ahead of todays all Lotus day organised by Simply Sports Cars (SSC). Having never driven a SC CC Honda before, Andy sent me out first to warm things up, including my shreddies! The track was cold and really slippery, about 9C with a cold gale blowing! I was amazed at the endless power of the car and also how well it was set up… I commented to Andy it felt like a huge go-cart… steering on the power and amazing brakes! A credit to Andy!
Anyway, Benja mate, all the piss taking is forgiven!!! Managed one half spin on lap two going into the hairpin! However, got quicker and more comfortable… So by my 3rd session, I felt right at home… WRONG! Just pushed the braking way too late and locked the fronts going into the hairpin for the main straight! Tried to cadence brake myself out of trouble and also turn into the corner…the next event was of course a full 360 that ended up with a drive though of the gravel trap… Lots of blue smoke and squeal… Andy apparently looked quite unruffled watching all this from the safety of the pit wall, but I came in with my tail well between the legs!!!
Andy went out again and kept it all together…
Great pub night last night, a brill group of very enthusiastic and knowledgable guys with some great machinery. Boded well for today!
Today, over 60 cars pitched up!!! And about 7 Exige S3’s… amazing cars! Andy drove his beast today in the timed ‘sprint’ sessions… the day had those plus 3 full on standing start races with some VERY hot machinery competing! And some very talented pilots… a couple of boggy S1 Elises were lapping faster than quite a number of S2 Exiges!!! Great driving, not a single stoppage all day (just as well I was not driving!!!).
The cars all looked amazing, especially the OEM OZ imports… 10-15 year old cars that looked like new with amazing wishbones!!! And there was a Kawakasi Green S2 Exige that had me thinking Steve was about all day!!! Perhaps I should have bought him out here after all!
Anyway, lots of piccies and I will get these posted later once I get things sorted! All in all a top day and many thanks to Andy for letting me tag along and have a great drive!

It sounds like you had some issues getting to grips with many amounts of power eh! If I know you though, you would be an absolute menace in a car as quick as Andy’s
Yes!!! Expected too much of myself mate… first track day in 2 years, first Lotus drive for 7 months and another 120 BHP more that I have ever had available!!! Not to mention the amazing brakes and an unknown circuit! I was a bit crazy really trying so hard with all of that!!! It did make me chuckle when I thought about our ‘chase’ around Anglesey 5 years ago!!!
So, BIG respect for you Honda S1 guys… serious bits of mega fast kit!!! Andy did really well and I am so pleased for him his car ran great over the busy 2 days!!!
