Hi guys,
Im new to the forum, a few questions…
I currently own a 06’ Audi A3 3.2 quattro, v nice with all the xtras, however im seriously thinking bout buying a S2 exige.
Whats it like as a day to day car? Comfy?
Whats the boot space like? Can you fit a case in it?
Is it noisy?
Any other day to day info would be useful.
Im going to test drive one next week.
Thanks,
Steve
Having recently taken the plunge and now 1 month in. I’ve used mine everyday (including all the snowy weather we’ve had recently). In terms of spec mine is an S with touring + a/c + TCS.
I’ll try and give you my honest view.
First job I had was to ditch the radio. Not because of the sound quality, but the touring pack Alpine is SOOOO fiddly, and as a day to day car I needed handsfree, so solved both issues with a Pioneer Bluetooth replacement.
I have a couple of issues to get resolved on my 1000 mile initial service.
- Roof squeeks like mad.
- Central locking switch only unlocks.
- Creaky drivers side seat.
If you are a wallflower, avoid. Initially the admiring looks from pedestrians and other drivers are kinda cool, but it can wear thin.
Reversing is a pig, but gets easier with practise.
Every other car you drive seems like a barge. (I had to driver my work colleague’s Boxster today, and that brought it home)
IMHO TCS is the way forward for a day to day machine. I test drove both TCS and non TCS equipped cars back to back on a day with great lakes of standing water. The TCS kicked in on the first car just as the back end started to let go, still needed a tad of corrective input, but was easy to control. Point is I really wasn’t expecting it, and the TCS helped out nicely. Needless to say the non TCS car I was a bit more careful on the throttle.
The boot is actually a decent (in the loosest sense of the word) size, but the aperture is quite small. Squishy things go in fine, and I can get my laptop bag, a rucksack and various other odds and ends in.
My car gets very misted up for the first 10 minutes, unless I switch the a/c on.
The small tank combined with my pathetically short journeys mean I’m going to the petrol station quite a bit. Getting around 22mpg, which is probably better than my old car (a Civic Chav-R)
Getting in and out with out looking a complete plank is doable, just! Though I’m basing that on me being 6’2". Today caught me out though as I had to open the door and half get out to grab a ticket from the car park machine, of course with a queue of traffic behind me
I do love the car though. Even in traffic it feels like a scalpel. Get it on an open stretch of windy stuff and it is awesome.
I’ll be doing my first track day in the Exige, and I can’t imagine how much better it will be then!!!
