I had a bit of a blat with a Mitsubishi EVO today (not sure what onenever been into them). I was in front and accelerated hard into 2nd cam and when up the gears tipping 8000rpm all the way to 6th… Looked in the rear mirror and the EVO was right up my ass…My foot was well and truly to the floor. At 140mph there was a gap in the middle lane, the EVO pulled over and shot passed me so quick I could not believe it…The exige was at its limit and the EVO seemed to have so much power left in it! Wow.
I’m guessing that the EVO had been upgraded in some way due to the sign writing over the car. The way it shot passed I hoped it had NOS…That would make me feel better.
It does not surprise me the Evo has beaten you
They can have up to 600 Hp !
Mine only has 300 and is already very fast
I also have an Exige S2 !
im looking to upgrade to a S1 from a evo3 with 380bhp and 400 ftlbs of torque am i makeing a misstake ???

that depends on what you are looking for…
want a bit more class than the evo as they have gone down here the owners are not passionate about the car and what it can do. I go on trackdays a lot and most evo owners are the point and sqirt brigade they turn the hell out of them and put on 6pots and stamp on the anchors every corner pottle around then put there foot down and they all think they are right to be in the fast group but cause people with slower overall cars (in a straight line) to get pi55ed when these idiots jam the brakes on instead off carrying the speed through the corner
still want the exige will miss the torque of evo but ill keep that and make it into sprint hill climb car
mikeh
Yeah as has been said they are a different type of car. Very very fast point to point cars and very quick in a straight line.
But pound for pound an exige will show an EVO the way home round a track.
Sean…
what colour and model was it

Not sure what model…i think it was quite a new one…bright royal blue and some silver writing under the Mitsubishi logo.
Well I’m going to the Elise & Evo track day at the Haynes motor museum track…should be interesting
The speed you’re talking about (which I assume was in Germany and the gap wasn’t because it was at all busy! Come on, did you not read the post the other day about who reads forums?!) are right at the top end of the car’s performance.
The Exige just isn’t a straight line car, even the S2. So why are to looking to feel better about anything?
Ian
I hit 143 in my S2 at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground last week. That was at just below the limiter in 5th.
I am sure it could pull about 150 but you would need a lot of space to do it.
The exige is only quick up to about 125 then the performance dropps off.
But that’s not why we buy them is it!
There’s really only a few circuits (proper circuits that is ) where those kind of speeds will actually be useful.
Bedford (not a proper track but with the longest stright in the country) I’ll see 130 if I push hard… But normally don’t bother unless I’m chasing.
Otherwise really 120 is the top you’ll see really…

Come on Ian, do you really believe that could happen in this case.
I could say I do 280 km/h on my 1.9 JTD 156!
They can’t use your forum quotes as evidence in the court of law! it’s not admissable (unless I’m very wrong about English law, and the UK is as free as North Korea).
Any solicitor can bail him out, without any problems!
Besides, regarding speed offenses, they need to have a precision measure, taken by approved equipment. The cops can’t just say by looking at you that you were driving at X mph. They need to have proof to show in court. Otherwise, why would they spend 2,5k on the PROVIDA system.
For those of you who don’t know what PROVIDA is, see the cops chase on the Blown. The system they used to capture it on film and record the speed is the PROVIDA system.
Cheers
Jose
It was more that I don’t want to get Exige drivers a bad name for being loons. Generally we’re really not. We love cars and want to drive a very special one, often quick on race tracks.
If I was a policeman specifically tasked with monitoring automotive websites, then yes, I’d keep a track of such comments. Not for any form of evidence, just background. See enough of them from one individual and I’d probably investigate.
Ian
ps. I hope nobody thinks I’m evil now.
No Ian youre not evil… you are quite right!
I sold my TVR Cerbera because I missed the fun of the Elise. The TVR was very quick in a straight line but a Ford fiesta could out corner it. I love the Exige its miles apart from the Elise.
I was just stating how quick the Evo was. I knew they were quick but didn’t know that they were capable of that!
Anyway I don’t like Evo’s. And good luck to the Police.
ozzer was your tvr that bad ?
i’m thinking of getting one as i need a 2+2
The problems with the cerbera were: Due the long wheel base and being so low it hit every speed bump! The slightest ramp to a drive way and the nose would scrape! (Had to re-do my driveway).
Very quick in a straight line…I had the sport conversion exhaust (very loud. crackles and pops all the time )
Labour and servicing costs are very very expensive.
I do not recommend Henley Heritage Henley-on-Thames…Car goes in…You get a phone call giving you a list as long as your arm of what needs to be doneif you got half a brain you know what they are telling you needs doing doesnt need doing.just a money maker (IMO).
The Elise/Exige is more fun to drive, easier to drive every day (over speed humps and ramps). Plus a lot cheaper to run.
hhc are just down the road, cars always seem expensive there.
i know what u mean on the cost of running them i looked at them before i got the exige and every garage i spoke to said 800 a service and expect more on top “no one just gets away with a service theres always something that needs doing”.
that still leaves me with the dilemma of what 2+2 to go for
got to have power & style
There’s a bloke In our village with one and it’s bust more than it’s running - even worse than an OLD Lotus!!!
