Oulton today

RussT, Shaggy, Mike B & myself had a top day out, meeting up with JohnO, who sponsors Gavan Kershaw (he of Elise 2 fame!)& his incredible racing Exige. Incredible, in that he opens up a 7 - 10 sec lead each bloody lap!!! Needless to say, Gavan won the 15 minute race by a country mile.BBS member, Neil Glover, also put in a most creditable performance in his almost bog standard Exige, particularly considering he had a first lap “excursion” at the first chicane! This round in the Lotus series was superb to watch & amongst the Exiges & Elises were a few early Lotus Cortinas - the latter brought back memories for me from 1963, when I saw Jim Clark driving one at Oulton [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] There were some other excellent races to watch, including Porsches & Astons (single make). Perhaps the most entertaining was the race with Astons, Jags, Lagondas & ACs - these cars being from the 1930s to 1950s era - magic watching the drivers leaning out of the cars, & tugging the huge steering wheels when cornering - those were the days [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image][This message has been edited by Pesky (edited 25 May 2002).]

Not enough people realise just how interseting and exiting Vintage and Post Vintage Thoroughbred (PVT)racing can be. If you, or anyone else reading this, wants to see more come to Donington 8/8 June for the VSCC Vintage and Historic Race Weekend, just about the biggest meeting of its type this year in this country. If any member of this BBS would like reduced price tickets (10/day or 15/weekend) Email me at [email protected] before Wed 29 May or call 07974 415496.(Cheap ‘plug’ I know [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/blush.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image] but it really is going to be a great weekend - 18 races with everything from vintage to 1980s Gp C and also Moss in a C type Jaguar)RegardsMike[This message has been edited by 83man (edited 26 May 2002).]

MikeThanks for the invite - unfortunately I can’t take you up on it - my dad’s 80th birthday bash is that day. Sounds like it will be a fantastic event, & I hope some of the exiges.com guys manage to get there to support you & the VSCC [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]

Hi Mike, thanks for the offer! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image] The clip that ITV showed of the Monaco Historic GP that took place last week brought back the longing to see these cars in action again (trying to regain my childhood you understand! I have fond memories of wandering through the F1 paddock in the 70s admiring these cars up close. [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]). Will you be able to get close to the cars at Donnington or will it be like a modern F1 meet where you cant get anywhere near them? Also, do you happen to know if anyone has entered a Lotus 72D? I’d make an effort to turn up just to watch one of these circulate again! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/cool.gif[/image]

It was a top day out indeed Pesky !!I like your new plate ya POSER!!!Can you get me some of those stickers we talked about sorted??I hope to see you all at Oulton, though I will be a little late as I have office duties first.John

Your entry ticket gets you access to all areas including infield and paddock where some 300 different racing cars (over 2 days)will be on view. There is no barbed wire anywhere but, of course, pit lane etc is out of bounds. There is a historic GP race but the cut off date is 1966 so no Lotus 72s I’m afraid. There will be a fair smattering of Classic Lotus cars - in that race, the pre '61 front engined GP race (Lotus 12 and 16), the 1950s Sports Racing Cars X1s, XVs etc, the pre '59 drum braked sports car race and the ‘Gentlemen Drivers’ 2 hour endurance race for 1950 and 60s Sports and GT cars.Off topic for Lotus but how does a field of 10 or so Lola T70s sound? Not to mention Gp C cars from the eighties? And that’s only the historic staff. With the vintage and PVT races we have 19 races in all over the 2 days. If you would like me to mail a full programme please Email me at the VSCC address (I haven’t sent myself a copy for home use I’m afraid)BTW, in case you don’t know, I am the Events Manager for the VSCC so this is straight from the horse’s mouth so to speak. If you can get a little group together I can give you some infield car passes as well where you can join Bentley, Jaguar, Morgan, etc.(BTW, VSCC is celebrating 50 years of Lotus at Silverstone on 21 Sep. Whilst I don’t think we’ll see one racing I am fairly confident of getting a 72 from Classic Team Lotus out as part of an on-track demo)RegardsMike

Thanks for the info Mike; I’ll try to get down as it sounds like a great event, especially for those of us that are far enough over the hill to remember these cars the first time round! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]

Hi Pesky and Russ!Thank you very much for the lifts, much appreciated, and hopefully I’ll see you again and return the favour sometime (although I don’t think it’ll impress you much after seeing what an exige can do!).Kam Pul[This message has been edited by Kam Pul (edited 29 May 2002).]

Always a pleasure, never a chore! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
