Ok Ok …but please dont exhaust him before I’ve had a go!!!
What a day guys ‘n’ galls…Thanks to Pesky for making the call , thanks to LOT for the best run trackdays , thanks to Damon for organising the training and the curry and most of all thanks to you all for being just the best behaved trackdrivers . Cant wait for Anglsea.
Aside…A couple of us had strange brake judder possibly due to RS14s anybody else have this??
[quote=AndyD]I got to Angelsey but my fue pump packed up on the sighting lap so had a typical IDG trip back home - IE in a flatbed tow truck !!

Really gutted to hear that Andy. Maybe we should club together and get an exiges.com support vehicle that we all have access to.

I run RS14’s and by the end of the day had break judder, I thought I had warped the disks but once back to normal speeds all seemed fine again, I put it down to dust in the drill holes?

Same here clive. newish rs14. really bad judder which, like boothy, came and went as the brakes got hot / cold.
My ap discs now look quite glazed. Going to clean them up, but if no good will try some performacne friction.

Fews things…firstly you guys really need to try PF’s you wont look back imo, those and 888’s are a no brainer for me.
Secondly Rob likewise buddy that didn’t fall on deaf ears same here
And lastly Andy, Ian especially Ian …sorry to hear about your problems but maybe time to buy an S2 hey chaps
I had a great day and owe a bunch of public thank yous.
Christian did a fantastic sheparding job to get me as far as he did. My alternator died just as I left the circuit and the lights and power finally faded by West Brom football ground and only required my rear-gunner Ben to help push it 10 feet in to the BP.
A quick call to John (aka JSRacing) and we were only 10mins from him and the car was on the back of his trailer 30mins later. That was on top of all the help and advice earlier in the day, thanks John, I look forward to discussing the fixes in the coming weeks.
Ben then loaded our luggage on top of me and it was a plesant change to enjoy the return journey with somebody. His car is amazing, nailed in 3rd is some experience! Certainly helped keep us awake.
I woke up this morning feeling quite happy because although the car is annoying knackered again, the help I got means much more.
Great work on the curry Damon.
And to everybody else, it never fails to amaze me what a great bunch of like-minded, friendly, helpful, open, knowledgeable people that I really enjoy spending time with.
One other memory that won’t leave me, a triple spin within a couple of feet of the barriers at turn one at the end of the day. Won’t forget that in a hurry!
I feel for you Andy, I hope you got to get some enjoyment out of the day.
Pads, yep I got a bit of judder off 14s too and bought some PFs off John (JSRacing) to give ago. Even in my 780kgs 180bhp S1 there’s about 5 retardations from 100+bhp per lap.
Mind you the way things have been going I’d have joined those making use of the AA flatbed taxi service home if I had.
Made the decision last night not to sorn the Exige for the winter, (12months tax paid for) so get it back together tomorrow, a few days driving it this week, then a new damper tune and hopefully a couple of winter trackdays before some tweeks next year and (hopefully) a full year with the car next year.
I fitted the PFs (after RS14s)just before a Donny trackday in July, & got a horrible “graunching noise”** (not vibration) under heavy braking into Redgate, Old Hairpin, & Goddards. They were fine at each subsequent application ie after they had cooled a bit.
Since that day, they have been perfectly fine on the road, & I was expecting the problem to re-appear at Oulton on Friday. However, it didn’t, even whilst Mike was driving it as it should be!!!
So, I reckon the PFs “cleaned” RS14 deposit off the discs at Donny, but made braking somewhat unpleasant whilst doing so.
** Best described as a similar noise to when the handbrake is not fully on, enabling the car to move on an incline. Braking performance was not compromised, but the noise was horrible & at first disconcerting. Once I realised it was a heat thing (as it wasn’t there at the next corner), I just ignored it!!!

Yep thats what 14’s will do… Caused by uneven pad deposits laid onto the discs.
Sorry dont mean to sound patronizing to everyone but I must of posted 7 or 8 times now about the problems with them. Changing to different discs is not the solution either. You put bigger/better discs on with rs14’s and the problem just gets worse even quicker… I killed a brand new set of 295 AP’s in less than an hour at Oulton a few years ago with 14’s even after bedding them in properly… Not a cheap way to go about it.
It only ever effects the front disc’s when it happens and depending on how bad the deposits are you have one of couple of options to resolve the problem.
Light deposits - You dont feel it when the brakes are cold but after a couple of laps when the brakes start to get warm you will start to get a rumble through the steering wheel (and noise) which will get worse the longer you stay out. If you continue to do this without some intervention the deposits will build up with each trip out onto track until the point were they will rumble even on the first application when cold. (basically your building up the deposits onto the discs in the same area each time the disc sweeps through the pads, the warmer they get the more deposits they pick up in the same area).
If the deposits are only very light then a couple of hundred road miles will generally clean the discs back up as they do not see anywhere near the temps they get to on track.
If the deposits are heavier to the point you can feel it when the brakes are cold or running at road temps then no amount of road miles is going to help.
If you are running the standard Lotus discs then they are the same disc front to rear. Swap the front and rear discs over with each other. The rear discs do not suffer from deposit build up like the fronts do and the scabby fronts you have taken off put back on the rears. You wont feel the deposits on the discs through the rear brakes like you do on the front and because the rears do very little work it will clean the discs up and spread the uneven deposits out evenly without putting more deposits down on them.
I also do this method when the front discs need replacing just through them being generally worn out. i.e Take off the rears and put them on the front and put the brand new discs on the rear. This way you dont need to go through any bedding in proceedure at all as the discs that where on the back are all ready to go and the new discs on the rear will bed themselves in even under track driving.
If you are using larger front discs - AP/ALCON etc. and you are having trouble then there’s nothing you can do but buy a new set… (and for christ sake dont put 14’s back on again!!!).
Excellent day. That was my first LoT event and I thought the atmosphere and track etiquette were great. Thanks to a spare place on the day Tony took his car on as well so there was no sitting out between us. I knew I’d been out for too long when I had fuel surge on the hairpin, a good reminder to come in for a break and refuel!
Just when you think you’ve got away with it, there’s a photographer in the bushes… he got some excellent shots too.
Just a little bit too ambitious on the gas at the exit of Knickerbrook, nice 360 and kept it on the black stuff luckily.
I was very impressed with the pace of the S1 Honda’s…and the MG van!

Is it me or are your brake lights in the wrong place? they should be the outer lights iirc? Cool car btw!
