Oops

Sorry about the outage guys… won’t happen again (maybe).

Apologies also go to your partners, employees, employers who saw more of you in that period too

I run other sites from this server, switched to memcached sessions rather than file based and this forum software spat it’s dummy.

yeah suppose if the forum software hasnt been designed with memcached in mind.

We’ve started using memcached at work along with varnish, but still need to improve the overall code as it’s batters postgres. Managed to get one page chewing 20GB of RAM the other day

Probably teaching granny to suck eggs, but are all your indexes super efficient ?

Have you considered something like Lucent/Sphinx for text searching, if that’s slowing you down.

Shouldn’t this thread be in the Muppet section?

:astonished:

Big refactor going on to slim down calls to speed up page loads etc. We’re also moving a lot of the search and page calls to elastic search.

We’re using datamapper (we’re a ruby house) as our ORM, and it’s not great so back end processes can also hit the DB hard.

Trouble is, we’re sat on 450TB of data with a couple of millions objects so cache hit ratio can also be low as the use base is relatively low.

I’ve got a hat on.

Hope that helps.

Aha, is it a new hat? What kind of hat is it?

Maybe that’s what caused the issue?

wooly

wally ?

ok any new hats have to go via change request from now on

Do new hats come with software assurance ???

This could end up like the mug thread…

Here is a picture of me dressed as a Jedi knight in my Naan hat.

When I am on my own I am known as “Naan Solo”

could be a meat head though:
