On the road again!

Whoohoo! After way too long in the body shop for repairs to the clams (wear and tear, not a smash) and waiting for insurance companies to get things sorted after the repair shop got broken into and my roof damaged mid way through being repaired, after a gale snapped the engine cover up and over to break the roof, it’s back in one piece and on the road.

god I missed it! I ended up doing away with the hinge for the engine cover and used some pins instead as a stop gap until I get the motorsport engine cover I’ve been promising myself. I’ll try to pop a pic of my ‘mod’ on here too but having never uploaded a pic before, forgive me if I fail miserably

Looks really good…

I lost my motorsports rear cover halfway down the craner curves, but that was because I forgot to do up one side…

that’s something I will have to remember when I get mine then. Have to say though even on the original cover the pins are better than that hinge IMHO, and I dont have to rest it on my head or carry a broom handle with me either I used the base plate of the hinge to fix the pins through and hold them in place but scrapped the top half of the hinge as it was bent and totally useless. Still half a hinge is half as heavy!

The trick is to have a routine of checks before you go on track, and when you have passengers drooling all over you it is difficult to concentrate…

They can’t do up their harnesses and they are always wearing zips to scratch your carbon seats and they want to know where the sick bags are and they want your feckin autograph
(and your babies!!!)

On a practical point, I had to rivet an aluminium plate onto the glassfibre to give a good solid mounting point for the bracket, but I have since tested it at over 140 and it did not come off!!

well when I pluck up the courage to pluck up on a track I’m going to look a right numpty going round the car with my clip board, ticking off everything as I check it. Better that than the alternative though.

Mike, is there any chance of seeing your handywork for the motorsport cover fixings you did, maybe a couple of pic’s. As it’s the way I plan to go it would be a big help to see how it should be done first.

And what’s with the offer of people wanting to have your babies? Are you an adonis or is it all down to the car? Perhaps I should stop going out with the wife in the passenger seat

I’ll take some piccies in the next couple of days - my broadband is being officially switched today, but I am not 100% sure I will be on line immediately, but I can always send from a neighbours, I suppose !!

Thanks mike, I’ll look out for them. Gosh I thought everyone had broadband these days No rush though, I wouldn’t want you to put your neighbours out on my account

Can you send me a PM with your email address so I can send the photos - I haven’t access to a site where I can quickly post them here.

It is all a bit frantic cos there are millions of things we suddenly need broadband for, but we are deserting blueyonder/ntl/virgin and going to sky, and there is always a delay!!
