Over the past few warmer days what temp does your S1 Exige run at in normal driving conditions ?
Re K series engine: Depending upon thermostat fitted*, should be between 82C & 92C. Will obviously rise in standing traffic, but fans should cut in at just above 100C.
- Lotus 190 upgrade included an 82C thermostat.
82degree stat fitted, so shows between 79 and 81 on the Stack in normal driving. Rises in traffic obviously. Have an Emerald ECU, so have set fans to come on at 95.
For some reason, I am always more paranoid about cooling on my standard 118bhp Elise! Exige has never given me cause for concern. Even on track.
There should be no difference on the running temp between cold and hot weather if your thermostat is working right.

agree.
this also means the full difference between cold and hot weather will be reflected in the coolant flow.
Thanks guys, that all makes sense. i recently changed the stat for a new one after a Head Gasket job and I replaced it with another 88 degree variant. Now wish i had stuck a 82 in !! Dohh
Has anyone used one of the elise parts remote stat, and if so any good ??
A must!
There’s the Eliseparts one or QED.
I had my first HGF becase my (upgraded, from Eliseparts as well) 82 DegC thermostat (in the std location) failed.
After SE rebuild, fitted the remote stat and the temp is more stable than ever.
Need to put this on my shopping list !! Along with some other bits and bobs…

I find it absolutely incredible that TT hadn’t fitted a remote stat when carrying out the conversion in the first place, given that HGF has been a major potential problem for years with tuned (even the lowly powered 118bhp Elise) K series engines. So much so, that I must ask, did TT actually carry out the installation in your car, or did someone else do it after picking up the engine from elsewhere?
The QED remote stat can be specced with a 75 degree stat. I run this on my car and even in the race at Brands it didn’t go over mid 80’s and my water also cools the engine and gearbox oils.
Sean…
Hi again, I completely agree with you that it is something that i think would have been a justified and a necessary upgrade at the time of the install; yet after spending 12,000 on the two phase conversion it still runs the stock stat set up. It is a genuine factory conversion !
I will definitely be fitting a remote stat because all that extra power is pushing my water system to the limits, even with everything in tip top condition and rear heat venting through the motorsport bootlid it still runs higher temps than the rest of your 190 Exiges. As you point out my engine is working probably 15% harder driving the supercharger and has to be generating more heat than Rover/lotus intended !!
That aside the car is fantastic with relentless power in every gear all the way to the redline…
the TT260 i had ran at about 70 in the summer and in the winter on cold evenings it would hardly ever go over mid 50’s unless in traffic. Phone TT and ask pete bland what the difference in cooling is between the 260 and 230 model. You wont be running the vhpd engine on a 230 modle though.
funnily enough, if the engine is generating a lot of heat the original thermostat will have a better behaviour.
more heat = hotter water returning from rad = more open thermostat and reduced pressure
I think one of the diferences is that the VHPD engined 260TT kit has a remote styled stat which picks up in a different place also they run an 82 degree stat over the 88 !
I have today ordered the QED remote stat system its only 125 with cooler stat and when i have fitted it i will let you know of any changes in temperature under normal running conditions.
HOW AWESOME was the 260TT ?
