A well sculpted question, Tim
I can feel the vibrations from here!
Podg, you may get some info from the Muppet Show threads (see front page) where Mr Erland ‘debates’ shared some interesting info.

On form Mr P
230 ish at the flywheel for a 1.8, measured on a engine dyno. But, it did cost lots and lots, plus needed lots and lots of support stuff to make it live for long periods.
Even then went back for yearly rebuilds and constant maintainence over the course of a season. Brilliant when everything was working right, but could be a proper grumpy bastard at times!
Sean or Podger?

Don’t talk about Sean like that, he might be listening
I’m making about 215bhp at the engine right now with a slightly reduced rev limit. When the engine hits the dyno again it’ll make about 225bhp, but again that’s not been cheap or easy to achieve.
Mine puts out 218 at the moment, but it’s a 1.9 Scholar Evo2 block… And if anyone can tell me any more about that spec, I’m all ears!
Cheers, Kurt
I am a picture of serenity and calm I will have you know!!
However as my daily driver is drasticly low on fuel, I am sure by lunch time I will be a grumpy bastard after sitting in a bloody queue, with every passing motorist thinking that I am part of the panic buying problem, when in actual fact I am just trying to fill my bloody car up!!!
Why don’t fuel stations currently insist you’re under half a tank?..although perhaps not their issue to police.
Annnnyway, back to the topic…
Wasn’t there a 1.4 tubro K that hit 240+?
Ian
The most I’ve ever known of was a chap who had a 1.9 in his Westfield, revved to 9200 or 9300rpm and made 286bhp.
I get less than 240bhp in my Sport Elise and Like John said earlier, I rebuild it every season regardless of usage, such is the reputation of these engines that I just have to open it up to keep checking!
Judd were apparently getting 285bhp+ on their K2000 motors by the end of the BTCC programme.
Caterham were getting 230bhp from their Minister Built K-Series in the R500.
Sean - I’m in the same boat fuelwise. I think I’d rather run out than join the panic buying loons who like to sit in queues burning up fuel.

Maybe you are thinking of the guy who hill climbed a carbon bodied S1 Elise around 1998-99? I think that made around 300bhp with a 1.4 turbo’d K. It was only ever used for hill climbes & suffured a few (sequential) gearbox problems.
