Oils etc.. ?

Last obvious question ha

Cars 5 year old now and want to change a few things before winter

I have had my car since March now done 2,500 miles without using a drop of oil , not what I expected however cant complain.
Can anyone recommend an oil , looked on opie oils and there is a lot to choose from in the 5/40 bracket

Searching here Redline MT90 gearbox oil seems to be preferred, any other suggestions ? I dont have an issue with 3rd yet !

Finally plugs ! denso or NGK ?

Give Opie a call as far as oils go. They always give good advice and they often have special offers on.

Redline gearbox oil is very good, as is Motul. Again Opie can advise you.

Plugs, I would stick with standard.

Do you know what grade for the Redline transmission oil ?

MT90!

Cheers going to get some its not one of the recommended ones by opie oils for the car but seems to get good press for the toyota box.

I think it depends who you speak to on which day. Opie recommended it to me but I had already made my mind up as everyone who’s used it says it’s the nuts. I’m very pleased with it. I think the box took just over 2 bottles to fill??? I’m sure I’ll be corrected if mistaken ( get confused with the Elan box)

Got Motul Gear 300 in my box and it’s been great.

Going to Put Motul 300v in the engine next.

Gearbox failed about 50 miles after changing oil to redline …
Mind you I think turning up the boost could have been more decisive in the ensuing bang !!

****** of course it would have failed anyway before anyone starts !! ******
At least I have a torquey engine

Car feels like it has a decent gear box after filling with Redline MT90 ,thanks for the advice. totally changes the way the car drives, iam amazed ! 1st gear and 3rd no probs from cold.Transmission is noticeably quieter when standing idle.
Only 2 litres came out but it took 2.3-4 to fill.Ill never attempt it again on the drive mind ha !
Cant help thinking lotus would have sold my cars at the test drive stage if they were too use this oil.

Used Redline and found it deffo improved the feel of the Box.

Now changed to Motul for both Gearbox and engine and will stick with it.

Had a lot of work done on the box so not sure if the improvement is due to work or oil but runs 100% better.

Many of the Lotus endurance racers use the Motul.

How often are you changing oil, Box ? engine ?

Depends on use - I’ve been changing my engine oil (I mean JSR have) every couple of thousand miles or 3-4 TD’s

Thanks, was thinking every 3,500 for me as not going to see that much track use but does get quite a lot of short journeys

Was more questioning the box oil ?
