Oil line recall - What else needs doing ?

OK, I am finally getting around to having the car in for the oil line recall
But whilst the clam is off, for a 55k mile car, what else should I be looking at:

The radiator has had quite a few high temps in Europe, and I am prob lucky it has lasted so long, so replace with what : Pro alloy ?
The a/c condenser is made of cheese I understand, so I guess that is to replace too
The heater resistor… no idea what that is, but I understand that may need replacing.
The internal floor vents never blow cold, so I assume some heater flaps are not shutting
L-R brake pipe to check
Tow post & grille rusty

All suggestions and experiences most gratefully received

fit braided brake hoses

Re the tow post, i’d recommend the stainless ebay one if you’re yet to source. For a later Exige the captive nuts will need grinding off the post as they are bonded onto the crash structure on later models not welded to the post as on earlier models. Ground the nuts off mine and had it powdercoated black, some nice stainless bolts, much better than new!

Hi Steve, this is a timely post, as I’m also just about to have mine done. A conversation with Chris Foulds the other day, and it transpires my car is also up for the oil lines recall. I’m guessing you’ll be having yours done at JCT600 in Leeds?

I had a conversation with Neil Atkinson in service at JCT on Friday, and I’ve agreed with him to send through a list of additional jobs I want doing, and he’ll quote. They will fit parts I supply, but won’t warranty them if they go wrong. Apparently the tow post is out of stock at Lotus and has been for some time, but as mentioned above the eBay stainless one is a good option so im going for that and probably have it stove enamelled black and fitted with stainless bolts.

My heater resistor packed in a few weeks ago which is what’s brought all this on, so I’ll be replacing the following:
Tow post, braided brake lines, pro alloy rad, heater resistor pack (modified lotus upgrade)

Oh and I’ll be getting them to replace all the fixings with stainless covered in Copperslip!

Exactly what I had done when mine went in.

Tow posts and ally rads seem to be very popular at the moment. I already had the lines and was going to attempt myself but it was to good of a opportunity to miss.

Mine came from eBay and fits perfectly.

You were there the day after me.
After talking with Byron, their Lotus mechanic, and after he has evidently done over 200 :open_mouth: , I am also getting them to look at the air con condenser which will almost certainly need replacing, and the heater flap operation.
Yes, they said the same to me about getting the parts myself, and JCT fitting them. Good call about the braided brake lines, and stainless fixings.

When the car was quite new, the clam was off and clearly copperslip hadnt been invented, the bolts were torqued down to a few hundred lb-ft, Chris then spent hours and hours grinding the bolts off to remove the clam a few years later, cost me LOTS :frowning:

Have you got a date or an idea of cost yet ?

What makes the Pro-Alloy rad so special ?

Hi Steve, I’ll let you know when I’ve got some costs back from JCT, I’m not in a huge rush to get mine done because I want to use the car over summer and then take it off the road over winter, and once this lots done I’ll be taking the rear clam off myself to do a load of work on the heatshields, new clutch and a few other bits.

I think the pro alloy rad is far better quality than the cheapy plastic ended lotus ones. I’ve had 2 of these go on me now over the years so I won’t be hesitating replacing this one when the clam comes off.

In the meantime I’ll get those towing eyes ordered and painted. I’ll be in touch Steve. Cheers Dan
